New Morkie pup 1 Attachment(s) Hi...I'm new to the forums and have a 14 week old Morkie pup named Lucy. She is the cutest thing...love her SO much:) She is doing pretty well with the potty training so far. The last couple times she was having a bowel movement though, she cried as if it hurt. I read on the forums that canned pumpkin was good for constipation and I tried giving her some. She won't eat it, even when it's mixed with her food. She was eating Royal Canine, and I switched last week to Eukanuba, so that may be part of the problem. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can do to give her some relief? Here's her adoption photo at 9 weeks old...such a sweetie! |
No one has ANY suggestions?? |
Congratulations on your new puppy! My son has Morkies and loves them. He feds them Blue Buffalo puppy food and they do very well on that. It's MUCH better than Royal Canin or Eukanuba. |
Congrats on Lucy...she's adorable :) |
My Wife wants one of these.....I can see why...very cute |
Congratulations on your precious new baby! Did you switch her food all at once? That might be the problem. Their food needs to be switched gradually over at least a week, or they could get an upset tummy. Green beans have a good amount of fiber so you might try giving her those. I give mine frozen green beans straight out of the freezer - they love 'em. Only give a couple of one inch pieces at a time though, or she'll be having the opposite problem. :p Good luck! :) Bonny |
I agree, a sudden switch may cause problems. I'm not a big fan of either foods you're using, but she may have a sensitive tummy. |
I have a new one as well. Abby did the same thing. She had to be shaved a little it seemed she was a little blocked off. Try to give a good check to the area to make sure there isn't a hair blockage going on. |
Thanks so much for the replies! I did switch her food all at once. Didn't realize it should have been done gradually. I'm a first time dog owner:) I will try the Blue Buffalo food...isn't it a refrigerated food? I got to thinking....I have been giving her cottage cheese instead of yogurt for the last couple of days, which I'm sure hasn't helped. I got more yogurt today, so no more cottage cheese. Thanks Bonny, I will try the green beans. I hope she likes them more than the pumpkin. Being a total novice dog owner, it's nice to know I can come here for advice....thanks everyone!! |
Lucy is adorable. I have a morkie also :) |

You'll want to start off with a mixture of about 25% new/75% old food for the first couple of days. Then up it to a 50%/50% mixture for a couple more days and finally a 75%/25% mix until she's fully adjusted to the change. Be careful with dairy products - most dogs are lactose intolerant and don't handle dairy well. Also, what kind of yogurt are you giving her? Some types are just fine but others can be very bad for them. I know, it seems like a lot to learn all at once! I've been owned by yorkies for 15+ years and I'm still always learning something new about them. :) My babies will eat pumpkin but they much prefer green beans. I hope it works for your little one, too. ;) Oh, and you might try sweet potatoes instead of the pumpkin. It's high in fiber and some pups prefer the taste over pumpkin. Remember, only give her a teaspoon or so because she's still so little and young - it doesn't take much. |
Welcome to Yorkie Talk. Lucy is adorable, and reminds me a lot of how my 3 Morkies looked as babies with similar coloring. I also have a Yorkie, so have a houseful of fun here. |
Welcome to yt:) Lucy is very adorable. |
Hi and Welcome!!! Your little girl looks a lot like my Hope and she is 14 weeks also!!! I agree, the change in food will do it. Never tried the green beans or pumpkin but my vet had us give them a teaspoon of activia yogart for a few days to help them when they had problems. Hope it gets better for her soon. |
Awww Lucy is so cute:) I got a morkie puppy 6 weeks ago. Best thing I ever did. They have so much personality and love their cuddles;) Barkley had a little constipation problem a few weeks ago and I gave him some green beans (He LOVED them) and he was just fine. Good luck with your pup. |
