stress of leaving puppy alone I have a 10 week old yorkie and have never left her alone yet. She took a seizure last night and I really scared to stress her out. Does anyone have any suggestions? |
What was the reason for the seizure? What did the vet say? I would be more concerned about getting her seizures under control- usually it is more stressful for the owner then the pup to be left alone. |
Hi. Welcome to YT and congrats on your new one! Did you take your little one to see the vet after the seizure? She/he is still very young. |
I took her to the vet and he said it was low sugar. He wants me to try feeding her boiled chicken for awhile. I have for two days and so far she's a happy little pup but I still worry about leaving her alone for hours at a time. I teach school and she'd be alone all day if I left her by herself. |
10 week old puppy all day? Eek... First off that puppy is a little young in general, usually 12 weeks is when pups are taken away from their Momma, so if you just got her she was probably stressed and not eating from all of the new settings. Are you using an ex pen so that when you're gone, she has access to a potty pad? Another option is doggy daycare, especially if you're worried about her having another seizure. I know my doggy daycare has a vet on standby if anything happens.. |

Welcome. If your baby has already had a low sugar episode she could be prone to more. You need to make sure she is eating every 3-4 hours even at night. The only way I would leave her alone during the day is if someone can check on her and if you know for sure she is eating while you are gone. When I got Cali she had low sugar episodes because she wouldn't eat and I had to coax her every 3-4 hours. I hope she is doing better today. |
Perhaps you could pay a neighbor to come and check on her and give her a few bites of food during the day? That would help keep her blood sugar stable. You might also check into a dog walker - they usually come in 15 -30 minute increments or whatever you work out. |
