Our new yorkie poo I will be getting my yorkie poo girl a couple of days after x-mas. I am so excited and can hardly wait. After much consideration we dacided to go with a yorkie poo. I prefer to look of the mix and we wanted to cut back on the allergie issue for my husband. My yorkie poo comes from an AKC Reg. Tea Cup poodle (mom is all white) and a AKC Reg. Tea Cup Yorkshire Terrier. Both parents are beautiful. This might sound a little weird to some of you because it seems that everyone who posts here is so knowledgeable and here a I'm about to ask really silly questions. :questione This will be a family pet, she is not being purchased for breeding purposes! But, I would like to know if yorkie poo's can be bred with a full breed Tea Cup Poodle or Tea Cup Yorkie and still maintain the integrity of the Yorkie Poo? Does the new litter then become less desireable? Than a litter that is made up of full breed yorkie and poodle? I have a couple of close friends who have mentioned to me their interest. But, I would like to make an informed decision before I decide if I want to spay her or not. Thanks |
I am not really sure but you will probably get your answer on here with a few mixed emotions....we shall see tho. |
:D :D CONGRATS!!! You will be so happy. I wish you luck with you and your new baby furball! :) :D :D Kristy and Mason |
Congrats on your new puppy! As far as the breeding, I am assuming you mean "very small" by saying "teacup". Breeding can always be dangerous, but is even more so with a tiny dog...a lot more so. I think friends are looking at cute puppy pictures of your new baby and just "want" one just like it. They have no idea the cost and danger you will entail if you choose to breed. I could run on and on, but I want to tell you that I honestly wouldn't recommend you breeding your new girl. Let all your friends come over and love on her!! :) |
It sounds like your pup will be too small to breed. Just leave the breeding to breeders and enjoy your little pup. |
Yeah, friends are just so overly excited when they see how happy I've been since I found her and when they see how adorable she is they just go nuts. Of course right now she looks like a little otter, she is only 2 1/2 weeks old. Her mom and dad are both 4 pounds so she's going to be sooo tiny. If her having babies is dangerous in any way we will not put her through that. Now we have to choose a name. Any suggestions? Oh, what is taping of the ears? :) |
Belle would be a cute name...if i get a girl that is what i want to name her. Oh and do post pics.... Quote:

What about Jewels, Cheyene, or Chasitiy? Taping the ears is where you tape them up to get them to stand. Alot of people also shave them to make them lighter. |
Congratulations What do you mean with integrity of Yorkie Poo ? A mixed breed always stay a mixed breed . |
If I do not tape the ears at all, does that mean that they will not stand? My daughter is now saying she wants to name her Dora?!? I wanted to originally name her "Wookie", my husband says that this name is not femenine enough for her. I kind of agree now. This is such a hard choice to make. :) |
Congrats on your upcoming addition to the family. Before I even get into answering your question I would just like to state that I too have a "poo" dog. He is a Japanese Chin / Poodle mix and is my prince. That being said, there are a few things I would like to address from your message. First of all, there is no such thing as a "Tea Cup" Yorkie or Poodle. Sure there are dogs that end up being smaller, but the phrase "Tea Cup" is really only a marketing ploy designed to bring in extra money. You may want to do some research into the tiny dogs and look at the health risks that these pups usually face. Next, please know that Yorkie Poo is not a breed, it is just a cute name that someone came up with when the whole "designer mutt" craze took off. Therefore, when you ask whether the pups from a Yorkie Poo and Yorkie / Poodle would maintain the "integrity" (not too sure what you are refering to  ) of the Yorkie Poo the answer is no because to put it bluntly, Yorkie Poo's are mutts and therefore there aren't really any standards. Mutts are usually unique and there is no way to tell how they will even turn out. I kind of think of it like making a cake without a recipe.....each time you will use the same ingredients, but usually not in the same amounts....therefore it will always end up a little different....some better than others. In my opinion, you should love and pamper your pup, but have her as a pet only and have her fixed. Besides the fact that mutts should not be bred (imo...sorry if it offends anyone), breeding is not something to be taken lightly. You might want to spend some time just reading the posts in the breeding section of this forum. There is a lot more to breeding than most people think and it takes a lot of money and even more love, dedication, and knowledge. All of that being said, I will be the first to admit that I made a very impulsive and uninformed decision when I purchased my Poodle mix. I will not say that I regret it though as he is my little munchkin and I couldn't imagine not having him in my life. While it might have been a little late, I did educate myself afterwards and hope that you will as well. You seem like a very concerned parent-to-be and have taken great first steps in trying to make well informed decisions. I wish you and your future baby the best of luck with whatever you decide. ;) |

Ashley is 3. She wants to name her after Dora the explorer. Now she says she wants to name her "puppy". |
yorkie-poo First of all, congrats on your new addition. I hate to break it to you, but just because the parents are both 4 lbs does not mean the baby will be 4 lbs. Esspecially since it has poodle in it. The word "teacup" is nothing more than an advertisement line used to get more money out of smaller puppies or the runt of the litter. Some breeders even give away the smallest because runts are usually the least healthy and end up with the biggest vet bills. There is no way to guarantee how big or small a pup by the pound. There have been people on this site who have had yorkies grow to be 8 lbs from a 4 lb mother. I hope you asked the breeder alot of questions, the stud is supposed to be smaller than the female, I have no idea why she bred against that. Make sure you get a 1 year health guarantee. I don't believe the new puppy would be a good canidate for breeding because the smaller the dog is the more likely she will be to need a c-section. I believe you would have a hard time selling 75% yorkie 25%poo mixes because technically they wouldn't be considered a yorkie-poo anymore. Good luck with whatever you choose to do. |
pup My son is 3 as well. I made sure to look for a yorkie that was not going to be in the smaller catagory. Be VERY careful with them when they play together. My son even has experience with the pug and has had the cat since he was a baby, but I still don't let him pick her up or be alone with her. Take some time to read the sick/injured boards of some of the stuff that happens to tinies. Not long ago someone's 2 year old fell on a tiny puppy and killed it. It seems like they're always breaking their legs by jumping off of the bed or out of arms. Poor babies, I always feel so sad for the families. I even had an instance last week where my son and the puppy were in the front of the cart and the puppy fell through the hole and into the bottom part. It was really scarey. Just keep a good eye on both of them. |

Your gonna have to be real careful with a yorkie that small and that young of a child. Theyre have been small yorkies on here that have been dropped and ided or broke a leg. The little ones are very fragile. I have a smaller yorkie she is 5 lbs and she doent like my daughter to hold her so sometimes the little ones are afraid of children also. |

I wouldn't tape the ears...you have 2 different breeds there. If you want to see if her ears were meant to go up from the Yorkie side, just keep all the hair trimmed off .... ask the breeder to do it while she still has the pup. This will increase the chances of standing. I am so glad to hear you decided not to breed, I think you would regret it. As far as the name.....I would suggest you pick it. When you let a small child pick a Christmas tree, it is one thing because it is gone in a month. However, if all goes well, you will have your little Yorkie-Poo for 12-15 years. I'd work on a name in regard to the pups parent's names maybe mixed togehter, a place you love, a food you love, a name you love, or just wait and see how the pup acts and pick then. Although, I like "Amera" |
