Sometime Limp Id been noticing Zach had been limping on his front paw and holding it up. When I took him to the vet the limp was not there but they took an xray anyway to make sure and saw nothing. They didn't want to give him anything, A few days later he started limping again so I bought him back to the vet. As soon as he walked into the vet's office he stopped limping again. The vet gave him a muscle relaxer or something. This worked for a couple of days and then he started limping again. The vet suggested that I take him to an othopedic vet. He kept him there for a few hours and called me to say that there is nothing there. Now he's limping again where I do go from here. It's not bothering him because he runs like a racing dog, it seems to bother him when he's lying to down for some time and gets up but other than that, he's totally active. Anybody have any ideas? |
Have you throughly checked in his paw pads, like between them, ticks love to get in there, pebbles and its spring so maybe a sticky burr or something from the lawn is caught. Last week Laci would NOT walk and kept holding up her paw, I didnt see anything until I came home and I found one of those sticky burr things between her pads , it was like little needles and hurt me to pull it out. It could even be a tiny pebble or stick.. you really have to look closely as their feet are so tiny and even the littlest pebble can be uncomfortable. Ticks also like to hard there and its hard to see/and find them  |
Lyme disease ruled out? |
Bevo used to do this.....His vet thought maybe he was having a LP problem...He checked him out and sure enough, it was slipping. So, we decided to do the surgery the following mionth, then Bevo stopped limping! So we waited...he still goes through spells here and there where he will limp for a few days, then wont for a few months! |

Limping pup Lexi, I'm going through the same thing with my 10 yo yorkie. The vet can't find anything wrong with her. She does it the most when she gets up in the morning and after a nap. The only thing they can find is she hasn't got the same range of motion with her head from side to side. She doesn't seem to hurt and runs just fine after she's been up for a while. The vet gave me medicam (I think that is what it is) to give her if she gets worse. We are watching her closely. The vet mentioned a possible pinched nerve. |
I'd be concerned about a spinal/neck issue since she is having a hard time turning her head. That probably means she is in pain. Since she is a bit older, the not wanting to put weight on their shoulder area makes me think of arthritis. It's common in large dogs in the shoulder area. |
