I'm a bad mommy I was cutting Tinker Belle's toenails and I think I cut one too short because she squeaked and there was a little bit of blood. She wouldn't let me finish the rest of them, poor little thing. I feel like such a bad mommy but I didn't mean to. |
Happens all the time even when vets do it. No worries. |
I cried the first time I cut Sophie's nails and hurt her. Needless to say I now drive to the groomers every six weeks for toenail trims. LOL. |
I did that to Cali when she was young. You feel so bad but it is an accident. |
It happened to me while cutting Marley's nails. He started bleeding none stop, and I was so scared. I was able to get the bleeding to stop and he was fine again, but after that incident I decided not to cut his nails again. |
I did that to Hot Rod and felt the same way. I now take him and Maggie to the groomers for nails. Fortunately they have a great $2.00 special they run for trimming/grinding nails-so worth it! |
Ugh! It has happened to all of us. Try to shake it off and realize that good healthy feet come from nails that aren't too long and it is something that has to be done. I am such a wus about it, though, I had to start using Gentle Paws and do Tibbe's nails about every 3 days so that each session is very short. At first I was scared to even try that method but eventually you get the hang of it and it is not so scary. The dog gets used to the sound very quickly. You still have to be careful as you can still get into the quick if you are trying to get them too short for that session. Just do a bit at a time and you can't go wrong. |
Thanks everyone. I feel a little better. It sounds like I'm not the only one who's had a hard time cutting nails. One of the problems I have is all the hair around her toenails. It's hard to see the toenails sometimes until you get all that hair away from the nail. By then they know what you're up to and start to wiggle around and try to get away. So I trimmed the hair from around her toenails, and it was a lot easier to cut the nails. I was able to finish cutting them, and Tinker Belle was very patient about it, and I didn't make her squeak anymore. I'm hoping the more I do it, the better I will get at it. Thanks again. P.S. I gave her a bully stick and she forgot about the whole thing. |
