Chew bones for yorkie under 5lbs I was wondering what kind of chew bones everyone gives there yorkie? My girls are just under 5lbs. Emmie can chew anything. Sidney will wait on Emmie to get it soft and then the barking begins. Sidney's month and teeth are smaller and this makes it hard for her to chew. I would love to find something that is healthy and a little on the soft side for Sidney. The barking drives me crazy. Thanks for your help. |
These are very soft and healthy- just a long piece of dehydrated sweet potato- mine love chewing on them. Dr. Harvey's Sweet Potato Potate'r Chews Dog Treats |
Z-ridge by Zuke... and Get Naked extra small dental chews... both are grain free, and made for 5lb dogs. |
I use the Himalayan Chews.:thumbup: They last long and I don't have to worry about them causing an intestinal blockage. |
Gizmo is under 5lbs and loves his bully sticks, bull trachea, and this Merrick beef chews that look like back scratches. Granted, the little porker may be over 5lbs now. Can't wait to go to the vet to see! :p |
Thanks for your help. I will check these out. |

My dogs like Nylabones, those braided rope bones and braided rope balls, and also rubber balls. It really helps to have plenty of toys for them to play with and chew on. We keep a basket on the floor filled with their toys so they can get them out whenever they want. |
All of these are great!!! Bentley is under 5lbs and he loves Bully sticks. I haven't tried the Merrick sticks. Sounds like I might have to try those. He love to gnaw on stuff. |
I carry Bully Sticks and Himalayan Chews. Feel free to message me for info. www.shopcmps.com |
update Ok we tired the dehydrated sweet potato fries. Emmie had her's gone in no time. Sidney was another story. Sidney carried her's around for about 4 hours yesterday afternoon. This time Emmie barked and barked at Sidney. This never happens. It is always Sidney barking at Emmie after Emmie gets the end soften up. Sidney never did eat it. It went to bed with us and she layed on it all night to keep Emmie from getting it. We are going to try some thing else. Just don't know what yet???? |

Has she seen a vet to have her teeth checked recently? Some dogs just don't like treats and chews but from what you describe it is like she WANTS to eat them, just wondering if her teeth could be bothering her and she doesn't want to chew anything too hard. |
Petco Beef Bone The lady at the store said that the beef bone was good for my yorkie to chew on. I've taken away his rawhides after reading about them and also read bad things about pig ears and nyla bones, which left me nothing for him to chew on. I got him a himalayan bone and he just buries it but won't chew it. Soooo .... he loves this beef bone but I can hear him sometimes break a piece off and chew it and I assume swallow. Is this safe???? |
Joni likes the Nylabone doublebone shape. Enough surfaces to keep her interested longer. And it's small without being dangerously small. |

Anything hard like that is going to crack teeth. You do not want to use those kinds of things. Our vet dentist recommends even using crunchy treats. He says that it is the saliva flow that helps the most. You could check the VOHC list of treats that have been clinically shown to help. |
