Purebred yorkie puppy with a black muzzle? 1 Attachment(s) This is my first posting as I will be a first time yorkie owner in December. My purebred yorkie puppy is 4 weeks old, but she has a black muzzle instead of the normal tan. She has other tan markings just like any other yorkie puppy. Is this normal or am I being scammed by the breeder. The parents are beautiful yorkies, but the litter seems to have this black muzzle thing going on. Will she look normal as an adult? Has anyone come across this before? Thank you for any information you might have on this issue:) I am trying to attach a picture of her so maybe that will help visualize what I am talking about. |
Welcome to YT!!!! I think the little one looks adorable. Have you checked out any of the breeders sights to see what their young ones looked like? Their coloring changes A LOT from the time they are born to adult so if you saw the parent's and say they are beautiful I wouldn't worry too much that your being scammed. |
 I don't know what to say but from the picture it doesn't really look like a typical yorkie puppy. Also her paws looks rather big. |
Hi and Welcome !! Congratulations on getting a yorkie and though I'm NO EXPERT - I've seen a few yorkies with the really dark faces and I heard sometimes the hair doesn't grow and is a bit coarser when they reach adulthood....I would have to say it's a personal choice if you like that look.....maybe keep looking if you are questioning whether you are getting what you asked for ? Some Breeders sometimes don't tell us the whole story on a puppy and as cute as that puppy is - I looked at her picture in my photo editor program and she really looks mixed with something....her face IS very dark. I would say if you are in love - get her - and if you choose not to take her - I'm sure she will find a great home w/someone else - She IS cute....but her markings are a bit dark GOOD luck from a fellow Houstonian :) |
I would not worry too much about this . Ashley was almost black when she was a pup and turned out to be an outstanding little show girl . |
pup Your puppy is quite young...give it time. New babies can look like little Rotties!! LOL The color is quite typical at that stage..if it was pure gold so early, it would be very pale by 6 months..Yorkies start dark and color develops over time...when it is time to go home you will be surprised how pretty the color is turning. Even on an 8 or 12 week old there will be dark hairs..lift up the hair and look at the under hair..look behind the ears..that is where the gold starts to turn on a puppy..but not at the age of your pup just yet...Best wishes |
This pup is normal . I would only be worried if the pup had 2 heads and 8 legs. |
Your little puppy is so cute! Welcome to YT! |
i found this in the sticky thread about colors: "Yorkshire terrier puppies can be born of colors that automatically deprive them of the necessary qualities to become the proper colors of the breed. They can be born all black; all tan; tan with black-points, tri-color;: black, white, and tan; all blue; bluish grey with tan-points, and so remain or change to another shade of their newly-born colors. Two heads and eight legs is considered an undesirable trait." Hope that helps |
LOL D4nimal, that last statement had me in stitches. :lol tears |
