Chicken and Rice question I know some of you cook for your dogs...when you give them chicken and rice, how do you prepare it? Just the basics? Just cook the chicken breast and make white rice? And how much do you give your dog for a meal? |
Just boil a boneless skinless chicken breast, no seasonings. I always just cook the minute rice ( microwave) I usually give Pnut 1/2 a cup. Are you wanting to home cook your dogs food? Or just as a treat? Sometimes I will just boil a chicken and use that for treats during the week! |
Just chicken and rice is not a balanced diet for a dog. It is given when they are sick with diarrhea. If you want to home cook for your dogs you need to research dog nutrition quite a bit. However, chicken as a treat? Just boil plain skinless, boneless chicken breast until it is cooked all the way. It's the driest thing ever by people standards, but dogs will eat it up! btw I don't like to give rice (asian rice anyway) bc it is so soft and sticky, it's really hard to clean out of the beard, and also gets stuck on the roof of the mouth. I can see how a long grain rice like a rice pilaf type shape would be more separated and not stick as much, but we don't eat that kind here. lol I feed Uni Honest Kitchen "Preference" which is dehydrated raw with no meat and I add in our own meat, either chicken or fish, she loves it like crazy! :) |
Thanks for your posts. They did answer my question. I was not thinking about using this as a daily meal, just a once in a while. I was making chicken and rice for the family the other night and wondered if I couldn't give Copper a little. He loves plain chicken. Didn't know about the rice until I saw it mentioned here recently. Thanks again! |
Hello, I first introduced chicken and rice to my puppy when he was showing signs of an upset stomach based on a vets recommendation. I boiled a plain chicken breast in water and cooked some plain white rice to go along with it. Then I chopped up about 1/2 of the chicken breast and mixed it in with about 1/2 cup of rice. My dog absolutely can't get enough of this meal and of chicken so I also prepare boiled chicken as treats. :) |
