How Does Your Yorkie Tell You? How does your Yorkie tell you it is time to go potty? I am always interested to see if Yorkie's show breed tendencies in their interactions with us. When Tibbe needs to go potty outside, he will usually stand very still and stare at me. He's impatient and if I do not ask him right away what he wants, he will start to bark and run at the couch or bed, bouncing off it with his paws while he is still barking and then twirling around in circles. If I try to ignore him and he really needs to go, he barks intently until I get the message this is not just a "play" request. How does your Yorkie tell you it is potty time? And if you don't react right away, what does he do? :animal-pa:yorkiej::animal-pa |
Lulu is pad trained and she sleeps with us, so the only time she tells us is when she is on the bed with us and needs us to let her down.... she will run all over us and lick us to wake us up to let her know she needs to get let down. One time i guess we wouldnt wake up and she jumped down to go, and woke us up by barking and whining letting us know she went and wants back on the bed! :D |
My Male Sneakers (2.5 yo), just comes up in front of me, sits, and gives a very slight whine. That's when the Doggy Door is not open (8pm-8am). He uses this tactic for other things besides Potty, and is capable of waiting the whole time before My Female Becca (10 mo) arrived. She has not yet established a definite "action" to gain access to outside and IF things go as usual, she'll start doing the same thing that Sneakers does. I just can't praise Sneakers enough, when it comes to teaching Becca about stuff. Sorta monkey see monkey do, it's saved me SO much trouble ! ;) But, before Becca arrived, there have been times when I have not immediately responded to his request, and he would just lay down and wait. Then try again in a while. However, given Becca's inability to last as long as Sneakers, I have been a lot more attentive about it. Better that than the Mop ! |
Pooter turns his head sideways and does a little dance at my feet, then when I saw "wanna go potty!" he runs to the front door doing circles. Tikka is a whiner :D |
Kaji will start getting restless or he'll stand in front of me and stare. That's when I ask, "Do you need to go pee pee?" He'll start to whine and run in circles until I go with him. He's piddle pad trained, and is very capable of going on his own, but every once in a while, he wants me to go with him. He's so silly! |
Charlie will go to the frin door and stand he will stare (only at me) I can FEEL him staring. Now if I dont acknowledge him and he has to wait he will give out a small but firm bark if I continue to ignore he will barl a little louder and then do this hopping thing kind of like galloping in place LOL then when I say "OUTSIDE??????" he gets all happy. |
Pixie will normally just go stand by the door, if I do not catch her fast enough she uses a pee pad. I tried to bell train her but she just either did not care or did not catch on. My little guy that just passed away, caught onto the bell after 1 day and then that is all i heard was the bell ringing, not because he had to pee but because he wanted outside. I swear to God my entire day somedays was spent just letting him in and out LOL |
My little Ruby will stand with her nose pushed hard against the glass on the door and will not move. If I am not alert enough she will pee on the door mat but early days yet she is only eleven weeks old so she is not doing bad at all. Only two accidents this week which I consider good. |

Lizzy goes to the door and looks back at me. |
Peek a Boo (14 year old) will find me and stand about 10 ft away, then he'll look at me, and when he sees me looking at him, he'll look towards the front door. This will go on for a while, but then he'll make a false run towards the door and come back and wait for me to look at him again, and he'll run again towards the door. He waits till I get up and let him out, or he'll turn around and go into the bathroom and lift his leg on the toilet! Tinkerbell just runs to the front door then back to me, barking obnoxiously the entire time. If I wait, she runs faster and barks louder. Finnie likes to be carried outside, but will go on her own to the door occasionally. (follows Peek or Tink) Sapphire tries to use the peepad, but just misses by inches most of the time. I ask her "What are you doing?" and she gives me the perky ears and tilted head like 'What?....Who? Me??? This was wrong??? But I am Cute! And I love you Mommie!" But has also on her own come and got me and led me to the door. So that's what I do when they have to go potty. What do they do when I have to go potty? They all race into my teeny bathroom. Then 2 of my cats come in and jump in the tub, and play 'hide and seek' with the dogs through the shower curtain.:D |
Monkey will stare at me and mumble. If I am sitting, I sometimes will move as if he just needed more room to jump up and say come on... His head will drop a little like when a human slightly shakes there head with "seriously????". Then I ask if he has to go outside and it is circles all the way to the back door! I really want him to have a doggie door though. Hubby won't allow it. Unless Monkey asks to go, he refuses to cross the backdoor threshold unless I have my kindle in hand and he knows we are going out to relax. Since we are in humid Houston, he is definitely an air conditioning kind of dog... of course, he doesn't like it cold out either :D Maddie has absolutely no warning so we are the clock watchers and have to just regularly let her out. She will always go out even though she doesn't always potty. Sometimes I swear she is begging to get back in because she has to go and is trying to hold it. She has been horrible at potty training :( |
Piper does "The Potty Dance". She comes up to you, runs a few feet away and spins in a circle, looks at you and run back towards you. She keeps this up until you bring her outside. Not once does she bark or whine. |
Ziva goes to the door and gives a funny grumble sound, if no one hears her she will lay down at the door. Her mother spins when she needs to go- I wish Ziva had learned that, she spins afterwards:confused:! |
Levi sits by the door and waits. In the morning, or if it is an extreme emergency, he attacks my face with licks and whines. But usually he will just sit by the door and wait! |
