Dog found after 4 years -- why I believe in ID tags so much! Dog returned after FOUR years away! After four long years on the run, a dog once lost is found, and cameras were there to capture the emotional reunion with his family. The Nakkim family is celebrating the return of their four legged friend. Chuck went missing from his Palo Verdes Estates home in 2007 after breaking out of his yard, prompting an exhaustive search that was ultimately unsuccessful. “He was gone. We looked everywhere. We drove up and down the streets,” said Lisa Nakkim, Chuck’s owner. It was only recently that the family started entertaining the possibility of getting another dog, but fate had other plans for them. Just a few miles from their home, Linda Shelton was walking to work in Torrance when she noticed an emaciated dog wandering the city streets. She befriended him and brought him to her office. “He was, I’m sorry to say, the smelliest dog ever,” Sheldon said. “I could see the potential in the dog. He just has a wonderful, big heart.” A coworker of Sheldon was able to read faint markings on Chuck’s ID tag – and the subsequent phone call was answered by an incredulous Nakkim. “Every word that she kept saying I’m thinking, ‘Oh my gosh. Is this really happening? Is this really Chuck?’” Nakkim said. A happy reunion took place at the Torrance city hall, and Lisa Nakkim said her daughter nearly fell apart when she recognized her long lost friend. “My daughter said, ‘Oh, we got a dog,’ and I said, ‘No, Lexa. That’s Chuck.’ She started crying. She just lost it,” Nakkim said. The reunion of Chuck and his family can be seen in the YouTube video below. The once 100 pound dog was down to only 60 pounds at the time he was found, but is said to be packing on the pounds already, and his family couldn’t be happier. “He’s back 100 percent,” said Nakkim’s husband, Eric. “It’s like a lost member of the family coming home.” |

Oh my gooodness! That is so neat. I agree, i think tags are just as important if not more than a microchip. Not everyone has a scanner to read micropchips. But everyone can read a tag. But if your dog loses its collar or someone takes it off than, a microchip is important. We had a dog come to our vet clinic , and the lady said she had him for 2 years, and never had him scanned, and so we scanned him, and he had a chip!!!!! She had found him roaming in the woods, I love stories like this!!!!! |
Crying like a baby! What a wonderful story:) |
Wonderful Story Britt, Thanks for sharing. |
Wow, what an amazing story... I cried when the girl started bawling. I wonder if he remembers them? |
Amazing. I love happy endings. I can't imagine what that poor dog has been through. |
I believe dogs remember, and I know cats do! We took Pooter into our home as a rescue, his owner didn't realize how much work a Pom's coat is and that they are so fragile and his bum was covered in poopy matte's. He just got to see his old owners this month... he ran right up to the lady and hopped on her lap. He will NEVER do this with strangers! He usually hysterically barks at strangers. He sat with her the whole time! Also, their cat wanted to play with him! The lady told me that their cat would not play with their new dog, but as soon as Pooter showed up the cat ran to him and they started playing all over the house. Such a happy story, poor lab was so skinny, I'm so glad he's home!!!! |
I too an a strong advocate for tags. It's stories like Charlie's that make me even more adamant about tags. |
megansmomma and brister, thanks gals for the reminder about the value of ID tags. I too believe in them, however haven't actually gotten them yet. My bad! Jodi I remember so well when all you pups got out, and what a panic that was. I've had to threaten to fire my gardener for leaving gates open, and yet it is MY responsibility to keep them safe and have backup measures (tags & chips) in place just in case. |
WOW-- what a story!! I am crying like a baby.. or puppy;) I have remy chipped but I don't always have her tag on, I will change that now!!! Thank you for sharing |
OMG, this poor baby for getting so terribly skinny :(! I can't imagine what he went through. But, a happy ending for all :). Chuck is just beautiful. |
My gosh it made me cry... Poor big boy, but finally he's back home. As soon as I got Mindy I got her an ID tag and she's schedule for her microchip next Tuesday. She is like a baby to us, every time I need to go out for something I'm in a rush to get back as soon as possible. I hate leaving her alone for too long ( that being more than 2 hours) and I have NEVER used a crate and I know I'll never will. Can stand to see a dog like that. |
What a wonderful reunion story. I'm still hoping Cookie will someday returned to his owner. |
