Proud of my dogs The last two days I have had new carpet put in. Today when they had it done they gave me a great compliment They said your dogs are so well mannered. I was so proud of them. Reminded me of once in a restraunt many years ago when we got a compliment on how well our daughters behaved. Yes proud moments. Just had to brag a little :D:D |
That's great :D Pooter is the worst behaved when it comes to being well mannered around strangers. I had maintance guys in my apartment a couple weekends ago fixing our oven and sink and the WHOLE time Pooter growled at them, I had to put him in his kennel and he just kept growling, I was SO embarassed. I let him out after awhile and then he was going up to them and sniffing them, checking them out. He's not mean, he just wants people to know it's his house and not to mess with either of us. BUT TIKKA! She got a compliment the otherday while I was walking her [I can't walk them together because of Pooter's issue with barking/growling, we can get ticketed for that here so he goes on a seperate walk so I can work one on one with him] A lady stopped me to tell me she was cute, then she said "and so well behaved most little dogs bark at me!" I was so happy about that! When we stop to talk to people on our walks she sits down as soon as we stop and just looks around. :D |

Wow a ticket that would suck. Way to go Tikka they just make us so proud when they do good. You may have answered this else where how is Tikka doing with potty. Hope that is going better |
Yep, we can tickets for it. I think it's an actual ticket targeted at dogs that make others feel uncomfortable... my friend got one because her 3lb chihuahua barked at a lady and her dog. When I walk him seperately I can give him little tugs from the leash as we approach people/dogs and he understands not to bark, he will still let out a soft growl, but doesn't bark. I can't work with him when Tikka is around because she isn't fully leash trained so she is always getting us tangled up and I spend to much time untangling. And yes I did answer that, but no worries about asking again... it's going great... 3-4days without accident and she went on her leash yesterday and today while we walked. I'm so happy, she gets to stay if she keeps it up lol! |
To each his own.. I don't socialize my two the way most do, and encourage them to be suspicious of strangers. However, with that, I don't put them in a position where others feel uncomfortable. Keep them short leashed and quiet when someone approaches, and train them to dodge and alarm, if someone tries to pick them up. |
Yeah I actually enjoy the fact that Pooter is so cautious. My husband works away from home quiet often because he is a hunting guide and then does tree work all over Northern Alberta when hunting is closed... a couple months ago while he was gone in the middle of the night a drunk man came banging pn our door, Pooter FREAKED out and woke me up the guy was trying to get in, shaking and pounding on the door wiggling the doorknob with anger, so I called the cops and they came and arrested him... now think if I didn't have Pooter to bark what might have happened!! But I will say I do wish he had better manners for visitors so I didn't have to kennel him for the first 10-15 min. lol I am working with him on his leash though to be better mannered! |

teach them the distinction between a Cop with a Gun, and Burglar with one, or A UPS guy with a package and someone who is using a package to gain access ? I have a "disarm" command, which doesn't do much more that quieten them, and send them back to their business as usual. I'm not willing to insist on much more than that, and get them to be friendly. I'm of the opinion, that just one error in their judgment, could get them hurt, or taken. Just can't yield there. |
Yeah for Pooter we have a command too, when I woke up that night I said "kennel" and he retreats to his kennel everytime on that command no matter how hard he is/was barking. He will still let out a low growl/scruffy low barks from his kennel but def. calms down. Saying "kennel" outside works too lol, he will retreat to behind me... but he is doin' pretty good with leash tugs, leash tugs are meant to be used with a corrective collar, but seeing as he's a 5lb Pom I wouldn't use on on his tiny neck. |
