Love Twix the name and the candy. Just a heads up they all start out black and brown but their coat does change as they get older so be prepared for the possibility of a Twix with a silver coating.

@ Buster Brown....I HOPE that Twix will turn silver too. I love when they are black, brown, and silver! We can match...I have 2 "silver" hairs as well that I've had since I was 25!

Make certain that puppy-proofing includes electric cords, etc.

Thank you again for the welcome and advice!! Very much appreciated. I am moving a little sooner than I thought (HOPEFULLY) *fingers crossed* to a home with a backyard now instead of a balcony so I am very happy about that.

Now I have to find my Yorkie sooner...but everyone is going for around $1000+ and I can't do that....ouch! I found one who was charging $400 but it seemed to be all about the money, she couldn't answer any questions and basically had a buy the dog now and find out the answers on your own type of attitude. NO DEAL!!!

Anybody in SC, NC, or ATL know a reasonably priced loving/caring breeder?

I agree with what the others have said -- I think it is all about the breeder -- part of my great success with my Yorkie was the support and vast knowledge that was shared by the breeder. I still contact her for advice.

Take your time -- don't be in too much of a hurry -- this relationship will last for many years and you need to be sure to have a good one!

The folks on this site are awsome and I have learned sooooo much from all of them!:D

Welcome to YT! I'm from SC also, Camden. I am getting ready for my first yorkie also, he was only born two weeks ago so it will be awhile before I can bring him home. Good luck finding your puppy!

welcome. I am new too. My male puppy won't be ready to come home until the end of July. His name will be morgan. I love getting all the info and advice from the knowledgeable people here. does anyone have pet insurance and what company do you have?:aimeeyork

Welcone to YT!! You sound like your going to be a great Daddy!!! We just recently went from one to three!! Be careful....yorkies are ADDICTING!! Twix is a cute cute name!! Mine are all named after the Texas Longhorns...You could have a candy bar theme!! lol!!!

I will tell you that it is better to spend the money up front for a healthy dog from a reputable breeder. I was not wise in the beginning and did not do my research before Buster. Buster is a wonderful dog but has health issues. When I first got him he had kennel cough which became pneumonia in the first months plus giardia and coccidia (parasites). Treatment for these alone was over $2500.00. He also has arthritis in his two front legs and luxating patellas (bad knees) in his rear legs due to coming from a commercial breeder who was more interested in profit than breeding a healthy dog. He has had one LP knee operated on and the cost for xrays and surgery were about $4000.00. Buster is 22 months old. :( There are hereditary issues that Yorkies are prone to so it will be more cost effective to pay a little more for a breeder who has bred for the betterment of the breed and tried to breed out these issues. I would look up YTCA breeders Yorkshire Terrier Club of America About The Club

...well kind of (lol)!
I met the breeder today and most importantly we were able to see, touch, and play with my him. Its so funny, he was with 4 other dogs and we spotted him right when we walked in. He pushed the other dogs out the way to move to the front. It was love at first site from all ins lol!!

However...We can't pick him up until the middle of July so my breeder better get use to me emailing, calling and showing up a lot until that time lol.

Can't tell from the picture - does Twix have the black coloring typical of a Yorkie puppy?

Thank you! We are missing him already....these next few weeks are going to be like torture!

His top half is black and his face and bottom half are a brown/tan/gold mix lol. His parents look the same with more silver highlights. Ok, I'm not good at describing this stuff lol.

Welcome Jay ! This is a great site, with many friendly people and good advice. It would be good to start meeting breeders and looking at Yorkies now. Get an idea of what type Yorkie you want. Do you want a show puppy and so on. A good breeder will be key to matching your personality and desires with their furbaby. A good breeder tries to make sure babies only go to Forever Homes.

Welcome! This is a wonderful place for a Yorkie lover to come-fo any reason.
Good luck on getting your new baby. I waited 2 months to get my new little Coco, and it was worth every looong minute of that time.
Just read everything you can get your hands on, BUT, know that most of the 'dog taining' books are not geared to Yorkies. I think anyone can agree to that. There are a couple of books written especially about Yorkies-buy one of those. You'll do just fine.
