Hi Jay! Welcome to Yorkie Talk. This is a great site with so much Yorkie information, you'll be well prepared by the time you get your little one. I have a Russian tortoise. Belle didn't even know he existed for the first month she was here. Then one afternoon she noticed him walking around his enclosure.... she growled and barked a few times and hasn't paid any attention to him since that day. Maybe you'll have better luck with your turtle and future Yorkie making friends ;) |
Welcome Welcome Jay, You came to the right place for all of your questions. Y.T. is very addicting. You are going to be a great yorkie Daddy, But be prepared yorkies are addicting. I have 4 yorkies and 1 maltese. Plus my grand pup Lilly she is a mellow jack russell. Plus I also have 4 cats. All but Jackie and Sadie are rescues. It is so nice to see new people getting yorkies. My husband, Mike who happens to be a very ill man, says yorkie owners are the most wonderful people. I agree 100%. Welcome and keep us updated on your new arrival. |
Hello and welcome to YT ! We, my two furbabies and I, are fairly new here too... it's a wonderful site, so many super nice people that sincerely LOVE dogs and especially YORKIES!!!! I have learned so much in the last couple of months. I regret that I didn't know about YorkieTalk.com BEFORE I bought my last pup. So many of my questions and concerns about the breed are right here, available any time you need it. Have a great time finding your new baby, I know he/she will have a wonderful life with you! Vicki, Tiki and Niki :aimeeyork |

People have mentioned YTCA.org breeder referral pages.....start interviewing breeders. There are some great articles on how to find your breeder in the YT Library. Along with that, remember you buy your breeder first, then your dog. You aren't buying a dog you're buying a relationship for the rest of that pups life. The deal doesn't end when you walk out the door....your breeder should be available to you 7x24..... If you have any questions....ask away......the time is now to ask them, not after the purchase. There are several guys on here. Carlybaby, Steve, the x-marine, AlaskaYorkie/Mike.....to name a few...... We love the guys here....it's a great balance....... |

And, I know exactly how you feel!! I am getting one for my graduation and since I'm graduating a quarter early (next year though), I can get one this mid September!! :D I am so excited, but as I look around...it makes me want to get one NOW. But I can't, got more hard courses coming my way :( I'm knocking them out of the way so I can save the easy ones for when I get my baby. ;) I would definitely suggest looking early. Make sure you're getting your baby from a good breeder. One important thing I learned from fellow YT members is that you have to buy the breeder first. You buying a puppy from a breeder is showing support and you want to make sure you're supporting a good breeder. It would be good to reserve one so you can see his/her growth until 12 weeks, which is what I'm doing. It's SUPER exciting! Good luck with your search!! |
Wow! Thank you all for such a warm welcome. Very glad I lucked up upon such a great site with great people! I look forward to getting to know you all and your babies! Hope you have a great day! |
Hi Jay, Welcome to YT! You must be so excited to get a yorkie puppy! I am a newbie too (we only have had Teddy for a few months) and have learned so much from this website! As the others have said, start researching breeders now it is definitely important to "buy your breeder first". Teddy's breeder is wonderful we stay in touch all the time...she always wants updates on Teddy and I always go to her with any questions...we have become great friends! Wish you luck in your search and again, welcome to YT! |
Welcome to YT from Texas and thank goodness for you as we need more men!!! I know you will fall in love with your wonderful little Yorkie and have a ball with him. Beware, they are real little terriers and quite the little hunters out in the back yard - chase birds, squirrels, cats or anything that crosses their property line. And some of them don't understand that gravity applies to them!!! They have lots of attitude but love to snuggle so you are in for a total treat! |
Thank you ladies!! I keep doing research everyday (general and on finding a good breeder). I'm hoping the higher price does not always indicate a healthier Yorkie. I don't think I can pay $1000+ at this time time. I'm good with $500, especially with all the food, toys, health stuff and doggie proofing I will be spending money on. I know it will all be worth it when I have my Twix. I want a black and brown one and already have the name as Twix even though I am sure that will change LOL! |
Love it - TWIX. Cute. |
