Tomorrow is Bath Day! Suggestions? So what is your bathtime routine? Do you groom and do nails first? Or after? What kind of shampoo do you recommend for the best and long lasting smell? I'm always up for finding ways to make this process a little easier on me and the pups. Especially now that I have two!! I have always done Kobi's nails but I'm SUPER nervous about doing Molly's for some reason. But they are in desperate need of trimming. Any suggestions? |
My routine: I always do the nails on a different day, less stress, I try to do them at least once a week so I only have to take a TINY bit off, I'm nervous to take a lot off. Bath time - I prepare everything. towel by the tub, curtain out, shower head down and ready to use, ear drops on the toilet seat so I can grab them. I grab doggie, turn on tap, test water, plunk doggie in tub, start water on dog, then let him have a drink from shower head. plug ears, wet face. turn off tap, douse in "Isle of Dogs" shampoo, scrub, rinse. Then I use conditioner, same brand, same procedure. I rinse for an extra few seconds. I wrap doggie in towel so I don't drop him and so he can't squirm. I use ear drops that have a drying agent. I put them in a tiny dropper so I can get better aim. Then I dry and brush. Have a fun bath time..... My other alternative - Call the groomer :D that's where Harley is going Thursday :D I only send him when his facial hair around his eyes gets long, cause I can't give good hair cuts (I keep him in a long coat, so I don't want to mess his looks up) |
Mines pretty similar to deonk1, Get out shampoo, conditioner, ear cleaner/dryer and put towel in the dryer to get warm. Bring water to temperature and put her in, wet her body only and make a rich lather with Minksheen shampoo. While that's sitting wet her head(careful not to get water in her ears) lather head and rinse body and head. Apply Biogroom silk conditioner and massage for a few mins then rinse. Take warm toasty towel out of the dryer and wrap her up leaving her head out, apply eardrops then dry(she usually falls asleep because i massage her lol) and brush. I also trim nails on a different day |
Having 4 I usually try and do 2 and 2. I will wash two and then blow dry the first one and then dry and groom the second. Then some times I will wash the other 2 and follow the same routine. I have everything set up, blow dryer, grooming stand brushes etc. I usually do their nails and ear trim on a separate day to make it easier on them. Lately, I have been washing 2 one day and then the other 2 another day. I switch up the shampoo and conditioner. The best and longest lasting smell I have found is Lamber Kay Fresh and Clean. For the best looking coat I like Pet Silk. |
I don't groom him or even trim his nails. He goes to the "spa" for that. But I do give weekly baths. I set everything up first and make sure it is within easy reach. Then I find the wild man (who runs to a different room when he sees all of the bathtime preparations). If his hair is tangled, I start by spraying in detangler and brushing. If not, I bathe Levi in my bathroom sink. He seems to prefer the smaller sink over the larger kitchen sink or the huge bathtub. I bathe his body first, and rinse, rinse, rinse. For his body, I use Nootie products. I wash his little face last. I use tear-free shampoo and a baby washcloth. I wrap him up in a towel, but that doesn't last long! He loves to run around after his bath, so I usually let him air dry. I usually only blow-dry if it is cold. Once he is dry, I use spray-in detangler/smell-good spritz and brush. |
I have not bathed Mina yet,but it is time. What type of drying agent is used in the ears? I have been trimming and brushing a little each evening,so she can get used to the idea. I am still looking for a groomer in my area. |

Our guest bath is basically the dogs bathroom. I have their shampoos, conditioner, towels and grooming stuff all in their all the time. I usually trim some of the hair before bathing and the after I blow dry, I trim some more and do their private areas. By this time they are ready to be done. I'm fortunate where my pet shop does nails and glands for something like $3.00/dog. So we take advantage of that once a month. |
I only have one furbaby, so bath time is quite simple for us. I don't trim her nails on the same day. I usually ony do those as needed when she is laying around with me relaxed. She goes to the groomer as well, so the groomer keeps them trimmed and filed. Be sure to gather all of your supplies before starting the bath. I use and recommend Yorkie Splash & Shine Shampoo and Conditioner. It smells wonderful & leaves Lulu's coat soft & shiny. Our whole bath routine takes about 40 mins from start to finish. I brush her out before the bath & after as well. |
I do the same as Deonk1. I do nails on a separate day, cut his hair on another, and bath day is every Sunday. On Sunday, I have everything in the tub, including his towels. He goes in, a quick scrub and massage, rinse, and conditioner. I let that sit for a while, then rinse, rinse, rinse. I wrap Kaji in a towel, and then blow dry my munchkin so he isn't cold. |
