Marley had an ulcer....question Hello all! Long time no see once again... I keep coming back here for the expedient answers and friendly faces :) So to make a long story short, Both Marley and Colt got into some chicken yakitori ( japanese seasoned chicken) and she got sick, Colt didn't. It was about 16 hours after she ate it that she started having really bad bouts of diarrhea and then vomiting. I had given her a small amount of pepto to help ease her stomach, and then some boiled chicken and rice. It only got worse from there. She ended up not being able to control her bowels and then started to vomit blood! I called the vet here on the military base... they said they had no emergency hours and to call off base to the japanese vet. We got ahold of Dr. Yoshida and he said to bring her in first thing in the morning. After a night of keeping her in a crate with water ( even though she wouldn't drink it) we took her in. He decided to keep her for overnight. He did a stool sample and gave her an IV, antibiotics, and then a steroid. Next day he said he would keep taking X-rays to see where the chicken was in the digestive tract. He said it was causing somewhat of a blockage and he would keep monitoring it. When I came at 5PM later that day to pick her up he said that the chicken has completely passed and it was going through the small intestine smoothly. I have medicine to keep giving her and he said to give her canned food for its calorie content and it's easier on her tummy. He said to keep this up for a couple days. My question is this... How long until her bowels are back to normal. He said the stomach lining will take about 10 days to replenish itself. The blood was caused from the ulcer. I feel bad bc I have to keep washing her little behind with cool water bc she tries to poop, its gelatinous, it doesnt come off, she freaks and drags her butt smearing it all over the carpet and her hair. I have already cut all the hair away from her hind quarters to make cleanup easier and ease her bathroom troubles a bit. Thank you in advance for all the replies. I can't believe how a $10 plate of yakitori chicken turned into a $375 vet bill lol But thank God my girl is ok! |
Thank God you are okay! I was so worried not hearing from you since the earthquake! If she's eating, try adding a teaspoon of canned pumpkin (plain) or some apple (fresh, skinned, no seeds) that will firm up any stool overnight. |
