Swollen tick bite I have taken ticks of of Callie before but tonight the area where the tick was looks different. The tick was on her leg and I was able to get the hole tick head and all, this tick was small but very full. Then next to where that tick was there was some dried blood in her hair around another little hole the same size hole that the tick I took off left. Her leg around that area is swollen and red. She is not limping and I cleaned the area but I am still worried. If it is the same in the morning and not looking better I plan to call our vet and take her in. She has never had swelling before from a tick bite so I am pretty worried. Also earlier before I found the tick she was panting and has been warm all night when normally she has to have a shirt on at night because she gets cold. |
Her entire leg is swollen, not just a large bump where the tick was? If, yes, I've never seen that before. And if she's running a fever, I would definitely plan on having the vet take a look tomorrow, or maybe an ER vet tonight. |
I have had tick bites get infected.. red a little "scabby" but they healed in a couple days and no fever. I also never saw any swelling. At the least it is worth a call and if the fever stays or goes up I would have her checked for sure. Please keep us posted |
I would wonder if she got an infection from the bite or if there was a second bite from another tick/bug (I think you said there was another hole with some dried blood next to where you took the tick off). I agree with you, I would take to vet, too. She'll be in our thoughts and prayers. |
The swelling this morning is almost completely gone and its not red anymore its just a slight pinkish. She is running around acting like herself playing and everything. Sense it is looking so much better I am just going to keep an eye on it and her and at if she starts acting different or the bite gets to looking bad again we will go to the vet right away. |
I've read that it is gone in 48 hrs or less. I'm glad it's gone down.:) |
