Bath Time 1 Attachment(s) Today we gave Ruby her very first ever bath at 10 weeks old. I have no idea if we did the right thing or not but she now smells so much nicer. She didn't kick off too bad only to start with then she seemed to think the water was good fun untill it came to the hair dryer which we held well away from her just enough to dry her slowly. I would appreciate advice from someone who knows better than I on the following..... Was it OK to bath her now. ? How often should she be bathed ? We used a hand made Dog Soap Tee Tree Oil which we purchased from a person on another forum. Attachment 343826 |
Yes, it's okay to bathe her. Some do it once a week, some once a month. I do it twice monthly, and more if needed. I would use a shampoo specifically made for puppies though, and I wouldn't use Tea Tree Oil on any dog as it can be toxic, especially a puppy. She's a baby and you have to take the time to teach her everything as you go. Be very patient and try to make evey experience a good one, ending on a good note. |
I've given Cupcake a bath twice now (once a month so far). It's the hair dryer on low that just scares her too much right now. Once she gets used to it then I'll plan twice a month. |
Since she is just a pup and will probably be indoors mostly, I would recommend once every two weeks to start. When she is in heat [around 9months old] if you don't get her fixed before, you'll probably want to bathe her once a week during that time. I've also read a few places that say to only bathe twice a week because less bathing and less brushing helps get their coat longer. But Idk about that one. Last time I had a pup I figured "once a week" but it made his skin super dry and irritated even with good shampoo and oils. Unless you already know her skin type I would say start at every two weeks. You might get lucky and have a waterdog yorkie who loves to bathe and tries hoping in showers with you!... Tikka is def. not. :/ But hoping to get her out at the lake this summer! |

I'd bathe a young yorkie pup every fortnight. They don't usually need weekly bathing at this point unless they get into mud or have an accident that requires it. I bathed weekly using a very mild shampoo solely because my ZoE sleeps with me and I want a clean pup on my bed. |
I agree bathing every weeks is fine since she is still a baby. I would recommend using pet silk moisturizing shampoo as well as conditioner on her so that her coat stays soft :) |
Thank you all who have responded to my request. Joan and I know we have a lot to learn about this breed and right now we are worried about making fundamental mistakes. Your advice is much appreciated. |
