One Year Old with White Chest and White Toenails I have been searching the forums about white markings as an adult and could not find anything (if there is such a thread, I apologize!). As a puppy Mr. Darcy had a white chest, white spot on his mouth, and white spots on his back feet. Now he is one year old and still has the white chest and his white toenails are still white. One nail is even perfectly split black and white! We love him the way he is, but I was concerned if this indicates a health issue. According to the FAQ in this forum: Quote:
His parents were both silver and tan and I do not recall seeing any white on them. I appreciate any information :) |
Don't worry, it's not a health problem, he's probably a parti:D Here's a few threads: Read the third one first:) How much white makes a parti? What is a Parti Yorkie http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/gen...formation.html P.S. - Plus side about white toenails - they're easier to see where you have to trim;) Post a pic when you can, I'll bet he's really cute:D |
I wish my Tibbe's toenails were white. Nail trimming is so much easier with white nails!!! |
Ooooops, that last link is wrong, here's the one from the library: Biewer and Parti Information Read this over, then search here or Google for pics of "parti Yorkie" and see if any of them resemble your guy. I tried to picture him when you were describing his coloring and as far as I can drum up in my mind, it just sounds like parti markings. |

LOVE THAT BOOK!! Anyway...Moshe has a bit of white on the top of his head. He was born on Dec 21 2010...and this totally new. Maybe I have a parti too!! :D |
White spots aren't unusual in yorkies. Lots of puppies are born with white toes and a white patch on the chest. Usually these areas gold out...and some do not. To the people pondering if they own a parti. Look inside their mouths...it will be pink with black spots. If it's mottled...the dog do not carry the gene. |

Do you me "If it's mottled ... the dog Does carry the gene?" Doesn't mottled mean spotted (like pink with black spots)? I looked inside the mouths of my traditionals the first time I heard this theory and some of my dogs had grey and pink mottling and some were more of a uniform grey color so I don't know if this is a guaranteed way to determine if a dog carries the piebald gene? |
Those are normal markings on a yorkie and the dog is not considered a parti color. The white nails are to be faulted in the breed. |
