Spay Procedure and Canine Teeth Removal ): Khloe had her spay operation and her canine teeth removed this morning. My father-in-law lives closer to where my vet relocated, so he took her for us. We heard back from the vet, and he said she did fine. However, they are holding her overnight. Is this common? I'm so worried about her; she isn't used to being caged up or not having human interaction. What if something happens to her overnight? What do I need to expect when she arrives home? Will she eat and act normal? It's SO lonely around her without her. Just hoping she'll be alright. |
They are sometimes held overnight postop. This should only be done if somebody is there with them. If they aren't staffed overnight, then it is safer for the dog to come home to be watched (in the case of indoor dogs). She will probably be slow and lethargic for a few days. She should come home with pain meds. No running, jumping, climbing, taking walks, etc. for at least a week and preferably til the sutures come out. Here it would be a half meal tonight and normal feedings starting tomorrow. |
Totally, my vet explained that he likes to keep an eye on them just to make sure they have no side effects from the anaesthesia, my vet lives in his surgery. He also wanted to be sure that he didn't do anything to his stitches. Little dogs can react badly to the anaesthetic, and my vet didn't charge me for the overnight stay as it's part of his service. |
Thank you. She's the tiniest little girl; the tiniest dog I've ever owned. The smallest before her was our Westie, Max. Poor little girls have to go through so much more than boy dogs. ): She's in a strange place, and I will be so grateful for her to be back home. The family misses her terribly. Hopefully all will go well through the night. I won't rest well until we get her back. |
She is probably sleeping a lot which is good for her. I always sign a release and take mine home the same day. My vet doesn't have anyone there overnight so I feel they are safer with me. I only live 5 minutes from the 24 hour ER hopsital. She will be so happy to see you tomorrow. |
I wanted to let you all know that Khloe made it home and is sore, but recovering well. Thank you for the support; this was a scary experience for us, but one that had to be done. |

My little Becca (recently spayed) stayed at the Vet overnight, but they Board as well, and have Staff there 24/7. I just felt a LOT better knowing that she was right there where she could get help if needed. My Vet is not all that close to me, nor is the EVet, so, I wanted to leave her there just to be safe. |
It turned out that little Khloe and one other dog was the only two that was held 'overnight', so she and the other dog spent the night with my vet. He lives on the same street, and said that Khloe did fine. Her vet is amazing; he even gave me his personal number just in case I had a question or concern after hours. She is doing better today than she was yesterday. She's back to biting my pants as I walk, stealing my favorite homework pencils and chewing them to shreds, and bouncing around in the yard like a little kangaroo. (: I'm happy she's back to her old self again. |
