Bored Buddy Well I have the go ahead from my husband, my Dad and his girlfriend (who look after Buddy when we are away) to get another dog if I want, but its not what I want, its whether Buddy wants a play friend, hes 3 in July, neutured etc, does not mind being on his own whilst I am at work, I come home at dinner for him to go out, but when we go to the park and he cannot find another dog to play with, he looks so miserable, he parks his bum in the middle of the field and patiently waits and looks for a dog to play with, he wont fetch ball or stick, thinks thats boring, he only likes to play with his big ted that I hold and pretend its another dog, last week I walked with a couple who had two yorkies and they run around in the park brilliantly, he didnt want to leave them, so what should I do? This has been going on now for 3 months plus, its not been a last night decision, one minute I am looking for another and the next I am thinking, no, hes fine. |
I vote you get him a friend:D |
I am the SAME way as you. I struggle with it so much and go back and forth, LOL. Jackson is the same way... in a way, he's perfectly content with it just being him. He always is fine when I leave him by himself and just sleeps anyways, he enjoys going on outings with me, doing training together, etc. However, it's nice to see him soooo happy when we stay at my dads house with his 2 dogs and he just plays SO much. I really think he'd like a friend but I'm not sure I'm ready. |
For the first 13 years of yorkie ownership, we had 1. Then we decided to take the plunge and get 2. 2 are more than twice as fun as one, as you get to see so many more behaviors than you do with one. It's so much fun to watch them play chase games and compete in fetch. It's also amusing to see how one wins the battles sometimes and then the other. The only down side I really see is its more expense, and harder to find another owner to watch your pack when you go on a vacation and cannot take the Yorksters (we dont use kennels). :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:thumbup: |
The only expence I can see going forward, is pet insurance and when he goes to stay at the dog sitters, dont use kennels myself, also found out that I can get £99 vacinations for life, so once you pay the £99 all your boosters for the rest of the dogs life are free, so thats a bonus, oh yes I would have to learn to to clip the coat, as I cannot afford £40 for both to be done every 8 weeks. We only go away a few weekends a year, we dont do 2 week holidays and most places except our motorbike rallies, we take Buddy with us, ie partys etc I know when I see the right advert and I will probably go for it! |

I took in a yorkie for a couple of weeks, while I looked for a home for her and I toyed with the idea of keeping her for myself and as company for ZoE. ZoE did not like the other dog being here at all. It was two weeks of hell. I felt horrible that I'd stressed ZoE out, who was doing so incredibly well before this experience. ZoE is my sidekick :D. I take her everywhere, but work, with me. Dinner, movies, friends, family, etc. She is trained to hop in her kwigy bo & stay quiet when she needs to. It's alot harder to take two with you & expect people to welcome two into their home at each visit. Yes, you don't mind leaving them home as much with each other for company...but I like taking a pup with me:) The other pup went to a great local home and now it's back to just ZoE & me...and we both like it alot better. My kids are grown & away at college, so I'm able to be on the go alot, whenever I like, and I love the portability of one! If I was to ever think of adding another yorkie to the family...I'd think real hard & do it at a time when my life is calm and I have the time to dedicate to making the transition go more smoothly. But, I think it will probably be just ZoE & me! |

I agree with you about worrying who can watch them but I do have awesome friends who love and would take care of Teegy no problem. I also worry that it wouldn't have an amazing personality like him. I got very lucky with him. |

save your $40 I trim Teegy myself, he gives me the oh mummy not haircut time again, can't I just play |

When we got our second Yorkie, Mr Pippin was already 13. Daisy made him act like a pup again for a short time before he got sick. So I guess he did not mind it so much, but he did try and show his dominance over Ms. Daisy, and she was far too fast for him :D Now the age difference in our Yorksters is 2 years, and they play together very well. Although its hard to think about, when they get towards the end of life, and one finally passes away, I don't know if I could wait to get a new pup or not... Logically, I think that is the right thing to do. |
Thank you to everyone on your possitive comments, regardless of what side of the fence you are on, it was much appreciated giving me your thoughts, the idea is still in my head and when and if the right pup comes along, I will let you all know. Do you think another dog or bitch? |
