Potty Training & Carpet Care Questions I struggled majorly for almost a year trying to get Princess potty trained. I do think it was my fault, at least 95%, and don't hold a grudge against her either way. I got my carpets shampooed at the end of January, and there were literally months and months of stains that I couldn't get up. The guys got all the stains up & deodorized the carpets. They looked great, though they did not smell as good as they looked. Princess had been going great on her pads & occasionally outside. Sometimes she would go (1 and/or 2) on the tile in front of the fireplace but I never made a big deal as it was easy to clean plus I never caught her. She was spayed March 7 & began having accidents. She has soiled the patch of carpet in front of the fireplace (about 3' X 7') and also a few spots in the hallway. Never in front of anyone. Tonight I took a black light to it with Nature's Miracle & used nearly two full bottles. I also sprinkled a little bit of baking soda over it to help with odor elimination. My question is should I get an area rug or something to put over this area or do you think the NM will work? I just want her to stop and am still giving her treats when I realize she uses her pads. I just want this to be over, she is 15 months old and I hate having to worry about stepping in pee! I know Yorkies are hard to train, etc. but I also know it's possible. I'm just looking for any tips to discourage her from using these areas and keep it back in the bathroom. Thanks!:) |
I would get the carpets shampooed again- they actually recommend that people with pets get it done every 6 months anyway. Then I would go back to very basic potty training- either containing or tethering her at every moment when you cannot watch her- each time she goes on the carpet it reinforces the idea that she is allowed to go on the carpet and only makes it that much harder to train her to go in the right place. |
I have a Shih-poo who likes to pee on my carpets, purely behavior. We have YET to find any product that reduces the odor. My now puppy is only allowed on my lower level with wood floors until we get her trained but i do intend on replacing the carpet as I feel its a losing battle. When they pee and we clean it spreads further into the carpet, padding then base floor. Your a brave mama using the black light, I would rather not see all the marks form my girls! |

^^^ I agree.. Gizmo use the peepads but when I take my eye off him for 10sec he pee's on the rug. So I'm looking into the bellybands. |
