Peanut is mad at me I haven't used his belly band for a while because he's a 'big boy' now but I put one on him today because it's storming and they don't like to go out in the rain so now he's pouting...they go out between storms  Oh well...I'd rather have him temporarily mad at me than set him up to fail if he doesn't want to go out in the rain. |
I have a Doggy Door, which is not right for everyone. But, on the bad weather days, I lay paper in front of the door, and give them the option to go out, or do it in an approved area. My observation is that when they have the option to go outside, they will, even if it's somewhat inclement. |
The doggie door is open and the potty pad is down in front of the door but mine just don't like to go out when it's raining/storming so, for Peanut, the belly band works great...just in case...because even if he lifts over the pad it doesn't always hit the pad. |
when its raining mine go out on the porch |
Mine don't have a covered area so we use the pads on rainy days. Peanut always runs out the doggie door to bark at the mailman but not today...he saw him come to the door, ran to the doggie door, stuck his head out and came right back in! It's really cold and pouring rain...now he's just 'grumbling' about the mailman...he's so funny! The girls decided he wasn't worth going outside after today too...what a crew! |
I think having the alternate/pad outside, but under a covered area is a GREAT idea ! I could do this for mine, but, the Breezeway is rather narrow, and rain will blow in from the sides, would make the paper a mess to clean up. BUT, still a viable option ! HA YEA !, My Male Sneakers is highly disappointed, when he can't "greet" the Postman properly (from his point of view). He'd be pouting for the rest of the day, if he couldn't run that guy off again. And is teaching his little Sister Becca, just how to get that done. :D (PS: The Postman nor his delivery are in any jeporady ;)) |
All 4 of mine will go out in a storm. But just to pee. The other takes too long! Gracie is usually out and all the way to the back of the yard before she even realizes it is raining. LOL They all use pee pads if they can't hold it but they also all prefer to go out so we keep them on a regular schedule. With Cassie getting old and Gracie never having been house trained till she came her at age four - the two of them are using the pads more and more. I truly wish we could put in a doggy door but they would have to go through three of them to actually get outside. (garage, utility room then back door.) sigh. One of these days I'm gong to have someone install a door in my office and then go crazy with a fenced-in covered run for them. Of course I will have to use the insurance money I get from my dh's "over my dead body" policy. LOL:p |
Lou, it's always good to have a "plan" :D Doggy Doors (IMHO) are invaluable, but, there are some very well informed and concerned Users here, who have mentioned situations which could give one pause. If you, or anyone would like to read the "discussion" on those issues... http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yorkie-products-reviews/224269-doggy-door-safety-convenience.html All in all, being informed is the best way to go. |

Then...you can take my little Peanut home with you and he can show your crew how to use a doggie door! ;) :D |

Mine use their door to go out and potty...join us in the yard when we are out and for short trips for fresh air...other than that they are inside with us. A doggie door can be a useful addition...providing it is used properly. We have had doggie doors for years, even when we lived in Florida, we never used them recklessly and we've never had any trouble. |
M2b, A very logical and conscientious approach to use. I'm very sorry that SO many live in situations, where the use of a Door is inappropriate for them. |
Teegy has a raincoat with a hood for those nasty days, he doesn't mind going out to the toilet, it's me that doesn't like getting wet |
Peanut can come to my house.:p |
