I need some advice on a rescue I have the opportunity to adopt a 3 year old named Molly(who is just the sweetest thing)from a breeder in our neighborhood. Although I don't agree with the whole "puppy farm" thing this little girl is definitely a best case scenario! Friendly and just an all around precious pup! She is not potty trained and has never lived in the house with them. I want to bring this baby home with me sooooo bad! I have a 3 year old male who is very friendly as well and I think they would get along beautifully. I'm just wondering what advice you could give me on this situation? Is it really hard to housebreak an adult? |
That is very nice of you to consider. Do you stay home? If so, I'd say it can be done. You will need the patience of a Saint. How old is she? Has she been spayed yet? I'd like to refer you to a link here: http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/yor...ll-rescue.html |
Yes I do stay at home. She has not been spayed so that will one of the first things we do. She has already had all her vaccs though! Thanks for the link! |
I have never had a problem house training an adult dog. One thing though, if she hasn't been spayed please do so ASAP. |

I got a 4 yr old from a similar situation. She was trained in a couple weeks using treats. She had to learn more than potty training and she learned fast. BUT it's all baby steps in teaching them and alot of patience/consistance on your part. |
I have had several that I adopted that came into Rescue from breeding situations and I have been able to Potty Train them. It takes lot's of Love and Patience. With the last one I adopted in November, she is 6 yrs old and she was kinda potty trained. But now she is fully trained. I also used panties on her as well when training and I had good luck with that. I also had to teach her other things as well. |
