Considering you're out all day, and only come back home late at night...are you just looking for a dog to cuddle with? Maybe you should just get a stuffed animal? :animal36 |
I work 3 12 hour shifts a week, between driving and sometimes getting out late, it can be even a longer day. Furgie goes to doggy day care when I work. She loves it, I love it.... think about it....good luck!!! |

I only leave Princess for maybe 3-4 hours a day, maybe 3 times a week max and that's not every week. If I do have to be gone for an extended period of time I always bring her to my parents where I know she will be spoiled & loved. I worry about hypoglycemia because Princess will not eat or drink when I am gone. She will not play with any toys or chew any chews. (everything is untouched when I get home, her eyes are sleepy, she runs to go drink water, etc.) When she was younger she would find things to destroy, now she just sleeps. Neither of those things are benefiting her at all. Yorkies are very social beings. I think it is rare a yorkie owner can even go to the bathroom without an extra shadow, they thrive on and crave human attention literally 24-7. Good luck with whatever you decide!:) |
No, sorry to tell you, but you shouldn't get any breed of dog, they need human companionship, the dog would be miserable and probably destroy your house. A cat would be fine though and they're great too:D |

Levi would be miserable if he were left alone for that long - and I can't imagine the potty accidents! I understand having to work (I am gone 8 hours a day), but I'd never feel comfortable leaving my little man alone that long. I am lucky to have a pretty flexible schedule and a brother that is around to play with Levi, walk him, feed him, and love him during the day. Even on an 8-hour workday, I'd still have a dogwalker come in midday or send him to daycare. I can't imagine a little Yorkie alone for 12-14 hours multiple times every week. Yorkies love their people and need companionship. :( |
I think if you stop to visit once a week it should be ok. Just leave a 20 pound bag of dog food out and maybe a hose with running water. |
A stuffed animal as in a build a bear doll. Bol!!! |

One of the great things about Yorkies is that they LOVE human companionship, if I were you, I'd wait until I had time to devote to them. Cats are great for people who are gone for long periods of time, most cats won't mind you being gone at all. |

I think it would be sad for a cat to be alone that long too. They are social animals too. A fish or a hamster is the only animals I think would be okay that long |
