Recommendations? 2 Attachment(s) Can you all recommend or give your thoughts on what kind of cut I should do for Foxy? I am thinking of taking her soon to get her trimmed or cut. At first I thought I wanted long hair , just trim it up to make it look neater, now Im thinking with the summer coming something shorter would be cute. Here are the most recent pics I have of her, would you mind giving your opinion? Thanks! :aimeeyork |
Firstly let me start by saying Foxy is too cute :) I would recommend getting her a trim, definitely around the face to give it more character and clean up the hair around the eyes. I always tell groomer to use the scissors when working on presto's coat. |
Thanks so much! I know I want her to look "neater" if that makes sense. She looks like a throw away little rag doll..lol.. |
hahaha i know :) Presto looks the same way and his groomer is due next week so i am hoping she can give him a trim this week. I don't like the clippers except when they are working on cleaning his front and rear! a trim will really help her. Hows the grooming regimen going for her? |
Well I thought about taking her this Saturday. She does well with a bath, and loves to be brushed. But shes not a long coat, nor a short coat, somewhere in the messy middle..lol..My hubby thinks I should leave her be, but I keep looking at her and she looks thrown away..lol..So we are def. going to get her all fixed up..lol.. |
I meant to add, that I ordered some gorgeous bows for her, and she will not keep the darn things in, so Im contemplating no top knot either. heck i dont know..lol.. |
Since i have a boy :( my DH is anti-bows!! but i tried giving him a top knot once and presto managed to get it out in minutes. I did get him a puppy cut as i was feeling his hair was getting messier and decided to let him grow it out! now his hair is all over the place :) I would recommend getting her a puppy cut so new hair can grow out but also make sure to maintain a good grooming regimen. Wipe and Brush daily :) |
Awesome, you have been a huge help! Someone here at work actually recommended the same thing, get rid of the old hair to help the healthy new hair grow in..lol...And she is 5 , and been through SOOOO much, so heck if she doesnt want bows in her hair, then so be it..lol..those are mostly for me anyways..lol..Thanks again! |
when you cut a yorkies hair you are not getting rid of old hair, you are just making the hair shaft shorter. Think of it like your own hair. When you get a haircut and tell the stylist to just trim up the dead ends you are just cutting off the ends of the hair, not taking out of hair so new hair can grow. Yorkie hair has a long growth cycle which is what allows it to grow so long, compared to a lab or pug with a short growth cycle. that is why they shed when you just look at them. Yorkies do shed but they shed more like people do and you only really see a few hairs in the brush when your grooming them. |

Ohhh..Well now I feel stupid..lol..I am CLUELESS when it comes to grooming and coats and that sort of thing. So don't you think it would be good to get rid of the "dead ends" so to speak? Or should I leave well enough alone? |

Another things, "puppy cut" isn't a specific style per say. It just means to cut the hair to the same length all over. So the body and legs would be the same length (which ever length you choose it to be) and the head can be styled however you want. To most groomers this means cutting the body down to a short but fluffy length and making the head round like a teddy bear with a length that balances the body. When the weather starts to get warm I typically shave my yorkie down really short all over and give her a short round head. Then as the warm months go on I continue to shave her body but leave her legs to grow out longer. pictures: 1) short body, long legs, round head; 2) puppy cut; 3) shaved with short round head |
I lke the modified Schnauzer cut! |
This will give you some fine examples of yorkie haircuts. If you find one you like just print it off and take it to your groomer.:) Yorkshire Terrier Hair Styles | Hair Styles for Yorkies | Yorkshire terrier hair cuts, grooming styles |
