Thinking of a name change?! We have had Cricket for 2 weeks and she doesn't seem to respond very well to her name. It's like I can say Cricket peppy enough. We are thinking about changing it to Pita, you can really drag out that 'a' on the end to get her attention. She kindof looks more like a Pita to me... |
Then change it. If she responds better to a new name, I would go with what she like best no longer than you have had her. I like to name a dog what it seems to like and really alert to best, no matter what name I liked. My Jilly was 4 1/2 mos. old when I got her and always had been called "Stormie" but she didn't respond well to it with me. After a few days, somehow I used the name "Jilly" and she jumped up and came right over to me and twirled around. I kept using it a few times and she lit up each time, went back to "Stormie" and she just stood there. Go figure! |
When we got Peanut he had a different name...I looked at his tiny frame and said 'well, you're just a little peanut!'...he smiled at me and wagged his tail and that was it. We named him Peanut and he loves his name...everytime he hears it he comes running with a smile on his face like this :D and wagging his tail! He's a funny boy! It might sound crazy but I think they let you know...Moo loves her name, Peanut loves his but Maddie Jo doesn't seem crazy about hers...unless I'm calling them for dinner  but if I call her 'Maddie Jo Panda' she comes running. Maybe she just wanted a nick name  |
I've read that you should name your dog with two syllable names, with an ending with a vowel, but not ending in "O" because it sounds to much like "no". Of course, I didn't follow that rule and named my girl "Rio" and my boy "Bullet" and they respond fine to their names. In the end it's what ever works for you and your furbaby! |
Since we got Jacob at the animal shelter we didn't know his previous name. The animal shelter folks named him Jacob and it seems to fit and he responds to it. We having been calling him Jake more and more and he seems to like that even better. (not sure how we know that but we do...lol) You definitely have to go with a name they respond to and is easy to say. |
We would call her Cricket last night and she would ignore us and everytime, esp my hubby, would say Pitaaaa, pitaaa...she would come a running. It will take some getting used to but it makes me so happy when she gets so excited with her new name!! :luvu: |
Oh I would change it then. I when I got Bella, she didn't know her previous name, which was Hailey. She didn't respond to it at all. So the day I got her I changed and she responds to Bella. Go for it!!! |
I've been thinking of chaning my dog's name too. Teddy just doesn't seem like a Teddy anymore. I say go for it if you think she would like Pita better. |
