What is all the licking about? Dusty has started licking everything. your clothes, the furniture, even the air. Sometimes I think he is going crazy. when I wont let him lick anything he just stands there licking the air. What is wrong with my dog? |
Maybe Dusty has a tooth that's bothering him. If it continues, I would call the vet just to be on the safe side. Good luck!! |
Have not thought about that... He dont act like he is in any pain. He has always liked to lick you when you are petting him, but now he just licks everything. |
My babies always want to lick hubby's pillow or his arm. He sd it is because he must be made of bacon. I can not get them to stop. If I tell them to, they quit for a moment and sneak right back to doing it. |
:)Alice is a big "licker" too, she's on my lap right now licking the harm of my computer chair:rolleyes:. She licks her front paws, my leg - I asked my vet and he said (after checking her paws for any problems) it's just a habit and to distract her. Now my Beagle, she sounds more like your dog, lickes whatever she's laying on (couch, blanket) and also does the "air licking" thing. She also does something called "flank sucking" where she sort of sucks/chews on her hind thigh. I asked the vet I used to work for and he researched it for me - it's just a habit that is caused by bordem or sometimes stress, but Alice doesn't seem to be in any stress at all when she does it (most of the time my Beagle doesn't either, although the flank sucking I notice when she's stress for some reason) . It almost seems to me that it's relaxing to them? I always just figured my Beagle licked "the air" because her sense of smell is so strong that she "tastes" what she smells in the air???? I'll be interested to see what other responces you get:) |
Oh, I've also ruled out dental issues:) |
I would think there was something wrong with mine if they werent licking |
Ziva licks our leather couch when she is hungry, we can't free feed because of another dog and she doesn't always eat on schedule. We think she licks the leather because its most similar to licking her mother as a pup. |
Rylie is obsessed with licking my bf when he comes over. She licks him, his shoes, his computer bag...Oh, and she especially likes to lick his pants  :p I don't know why he is so tasty to her, but I guess I can't blame her because he is yummy to me! :D |
Presto used to lick his paws a lot and we determined it was food allergies. |

Hahahaha this kind of made my afternoon. :D:D:D Whitney doesn't lick much yet, but my doxie licks constantly, and his vet said the same thing others here have said...just a habit! A gross, smelly noisy habit.;) |

I swear it is JUST him though. She doesn't behave like that for anyone else. My cat, Suki, really likes his stuff too! She constantly sticks her head in his shoes and rolls all over his stuff. I really don't get why my animals are so obsessed with him! |
So glad to hear Dusty is not by himself. I guess it is better than the defleaing thing he used to do. That hurt when he would get your skin. Maybe it will go away. he will stop when I tell him No Licking , but its not but just a second and he's at it again. |
Ok, don't laugh...but my puppy (16 wks) loves to lick my chin, my chest, but especially goes to town on my cleavage!!!! She could lick between the twins for 15 mins if I let her. lol It's hilarious!!! Anyone else with a cleavage licker?:p |
Roxie licks everything...her toys, the arm of the leather couch, her feet, DBF's face, our hands, and if I am wearing capri pants she will lick my calf. She's a silly little thing sometimes. |
