Just a bit curious... Don't get me wrong- I LOOOOVE my pookie ;) But how long do Yorkies generally act like puppies? When do they start to calm down? I don't have much experience in this field. Both my mom's dog and my sister's dog are only a couple of months older than Marley ( who will be 6 months old on the 18th) and they are not nearly as hyper as Marley is. They are still puppies but they don't act like it as much, you know? Do they start to calm down after you get them fixed? Thanks in advance~! :p |
My Yorkies were puppy-acting almost all of their lives and only after 9 years with one and 12 years with the other did they start to slow down some. Tibbe will be 4 end of August and he is still as playfull and full of mischief as almost any baby. I love it and hope he doesn't change until he is really old as I love a dog that doesn't lay around much. Neutering didn't change them as far as personality at all. |
I've been told that after 7 years old and some people have told me that theirs are still hyper even after 7. My little ones are 2 yrs old and Nini is a bit calmed, but Nicky still gets into trouble a lot :D |

Rizzo is 16 months and I think he's become more hyper, lol. It all depends on how much exercise I give him, I can usually gage how destructive he'll be. If he doesn't get a nice bout of running first thing in the AM he's likely to destroy something valuable (laptop cord, designer glasses, etc). I don't count on him ever getting out of his puppy stage, I love it :) is that sick or what, lol? |
I would say each yorkie will have its own personality. I know I was surprised that my little girl never once has chewed anything in the house ( I have had her since I picked her up from my breeder at 12 weeks ).. and all she seems to want in life is to be on my lap.. she will follow me through the house waiting for me to sit so that she can climb up on my lap. Once in a while she will bark at things.. the cat, the kids, my daughter's Chichauhau trying to instigate someone to play with her.. but for the most part.. she likes to lounge about in a lap like a little queen of sheeba. If it isn't a matter of different personalities... the only other thing I can say is she gets as much exercise as she wants.. she has a big yard to play in.. and the house is large enough to afford running about when she wants to.:animal-pa |
My boys are almost 6 , both neutered and still act like puppies! The only time they are pooped out is about 830-9pm until 6am! Then they are back to nutcases! LOL I love them like that though! I hate the thought of them getting old! I cannot believe this year they will be 6 years old.... the time FLIES by!!! |
Apple is going to be 3 in October, and she's still full of it lol...Buzz is almost 2, and a little bit more mellow, but I think it's just his personality...Cha Cha, the Chorkie, is about 2, and somewhere inbetween Apple & Buzz w/her movement...Sooooo, I think some pups are more high strung, and some aren't...Spaying didn't slow down either of my girls... |
My neighbour who has a 10 year old Yorkie said when Teegy is 2 he'll start to calm down, he's two in 4 months, I very much doubt that. But I won't complain because his energy feeds my energy and I'm a lot more active because of him. I lose weight in the summer because of all the long walks we go on. So if he wants to be my zany pup for the rest of his life, suits me fine. |
Rhia is 3 and still acts like her puppy self. She does nap a little more and likes to sleep in, but she definitely goes berzerk just like she did when she was a pup! |
Jackson is still puppy-like in a lot of ways but he matured a lot after 2. His little girlfriend Yorkie, Nala, who is 2 now I think is still mrs puppy hyper, her nickname is crackhead. ;) |

It depends on the dog. I have a beagle who is 12 and acts like a puppy still. He has so much energy and is still so playful. The vet asked us if we had his birthday right. We got him at 2 1/2 and he was clearly full grown and we got him from a breeder my grandfather knows. His papers say his birthday as well. He just happens to be healthy and happy and extremely energetic. :) |

I don't mind it either :D In fact, I miss Nini being wild! I used to tell her, "Nini, that's not lady-like." Now I tell her to go play and have fun---she does, but not like before  I watch the videos of when she was a baby and laugh at the things she used to do. |
