Immediate foster home needed for special needs yorkie mix Is there anyone in the St. Louis area willing to help me with a special needs yorkie mix? The owner needs to surrender her and I cannot take her right now. I can put in the effort to help find her a permanent home or get her to a non-profit yorkie rescue, but she needs a foster home asap, according to the owner. I really want to help. The owner doesn't want to have to take her to a shelter and I certainly don't want that either. She tells me she has exhausted all possibilities at this point. The little girl is a year old, five pounds, and missing her left front leg. Typically, I would take her in to my home but we have so much going on right now, I cannot take a special needs foster. Pm me or email me if you can help or have any suggestions - info@yorkieshampoo.com |
aw i wish i was in the area to help you out. Do you know why she is missing a front leg? If that's the only thing wrong with her then i really don't see her as special needs, unless she just had it amputated and is still healing. She is a special baby but shouldn't need any special care other then a little understanding. I fostered a few three legged cats and one small dog, so i have a special place for them in my heart. :) anyway, i hope someone in the area can help you out with her so she doesn't have to go to a shelter. |
The leg was amputated - the owner mentioned something about monitoring her weight because of the leg but that she is otherwise healthy. |
i am in KC, MO and can take her in for right now. i won't be able to afford her long term but might be able to get some help with a local rescue to pay for her foster care. i can drive a little ways and meet if you need me to |
That would be awesome!!! I am going to get in touch with the owner and find out if she can meet half way or something. |
where ru located at? ru in KC area too?? if she can drive to Columbia area and then if you happen to be in between St. Louis and KC area i can meet you half way too or something. |
I am in the Springfield area but we can figure something out as far as the traveling. I can meet her somewhere and drive closer to you or something I'm sure. I just want her to be in a safe and secure stable environment and then the focus can be on finding her a permanent home. I know said she needed to re home the baby asap, so I don't know for sure how desperate the situation is - I just don't want her ending up in a kill shelter. |
i hear ya! well you let me know all the details and everything and when and if i am needed i will do what i can to meet up and get her home with me until we find her a perm home. i work with parkville animal shelter and have a few connections to other shelters and rescues that will help me foster her and keep her with me until they find her a home. |
I can tell you that Chris's Rescue Angels is a rescue group and has a Rep in St. Louis I believe. They may be able to help. Here is their web-site, About Chris If you look on the left hand side and scroll down there is link to click on that say's Surrender A Dog. Click on that and fill out the info. I hope maybe they help. |
THANK YOU RACHEL & SADIE for saving this little baby! If I didn't work full time and Toby was socialized with other dogs, I would have taken her in. |
don't worry i am pretty sure i can take her in. mike didn't seem to mind he just felt sad for her three legs. i have two nice kennels and plenty of love and time to train and people home to love on her until we get her a home. the only trouble at all is getting her to me and finding a rescue to help pay. |
I Emailed the owner and let her know we have a place for her. If I don't hear back tonight I will call her in the morning. I have been super sick the last couple days so I am focusining on this as much as I can... When I can focus *cough* lol I am so thankful for YT- don't know what I would have done about this baby without you, RachelandSadie. :) |
God Bless You Rachel and Sadie for taking in this poor little girl! Sorry you are ill Sarah. Hope it's not serious. :animal-pa |
it's no big deal. i'm emailing her today and then i'll try and call over the weekend if she doesn't respond to email. WalnutHill...how did you meet or get into contact with her? Also did she mention why the leg had to be amputated? Just curious. Also I will need to know if she's ever bitten anyone for the rescue that i work with to include whether she is good for a kid friendly family or not. No matter what we are very confident she will get placed in a good home. |
I just have a cold, Jackie :) sinus crud. I didn't ask about the leg - I was more focused on her personality. I should have had a list of questions to ask her... She said she is very good with other animals and people, but I didn't specifically ask about biting. She was a very nice lady and quite sad to have to let Maribel go. I am sure she will tell you anything you need to know. The owner contacted me via email. My family and I do private rescue when we can - mostly help people who can't find help anywhere else. The last yorkie we helped was just medical care - we paid for a yorkie's emergency surgery for a person who couldn't afford it. before that we rescued and rehomed two eight year old boys... So, I have never met her or anything but she was very kind on the phone. |
