Keeping him warm Hi, this is my first 'post'. I want to know what most people use to keep their Yorkies warm. I travel between Florida and England and as of July, Mogwi is coming with me on these trips!!!! I don't want him to be unable to go for a walk, he has a rain coat but I have been unable to find something comfortable for him the wear, except his favorite 'Go Green' T shirt! Any help is appreciated by us both :) |
Hi, welcome to YT :) That's so great you get to travel and take your baby with you, England is on the top of my list of places I still want to travel to :) I have some "hoodies" for Alice and she seems sooo comfy in them. It's thicker than a tee-shirt and there's no buttons, hooks or velcro so thats why I think she likes them. I picked them up for about $7 each at a local small pet store (I'd imagine it's a little harder to find warm clothes in FL lol). I haven't shopped online for any doggie clothes yet, so I can't direct you there, but I know that there are a few YT members that sell clothes. Check in the "products and reviews" category and also the section on threads where those members selling items can post their links. You'll have so many choices your head will spin LOL |

Ziva wears tshirts in the house, made from baby onsies (i cut them longer than the tshirts from target) and they fit tighter so she doesn't get tangled in them. I put a little fleece wraparound jacket over it for outside on our really cold days in Jan/Feb. |

I hope that you are aware that the UK has very strict regulations for dogs entering the country. Your dog cannot fly in the cabin with you, he must fly as cargo. Also if he isn't fitted with an ISO microchip you will need to bring your own scanner with you. Actually they do not have to go into quarantine any longer. If you follow all the strict rules you will have a pet passport. The rules are complicated and have to be done in the correct order: Chip your pet with a universal micro chip , have your pet vaccinated against rabies, have a titre blood test, wait six months and they 48 hours before departure have the dog treated for parasites and make sure you take the USDA certificate and that your chip can be read. This is long and complicated but so much better than a 6 month quarantine. |
He can fly in the cabin on Lufthansa, Continental, AlItalia, and Air France and I am sure there are others. I would not put my precious in a cargo hold. |
Hi and Welcome to YT! I find that hoodies or pj's are the most comfortable for my yorkies and keep them the warmest. Check out Washable and reusable dog and puppy pee pads, belly bands, and diapers at T. Bumpkins & Co. AND FuFu Fashions custom dog clothes and apparel for great custom pj's, this way they will fit perfectly and be even more comfortable. |
Just being nosy... what part of England? I've visited London three times and it is my number one favorite place!! This is so interesting, please keep us updated how your baby likes traveling and how he likes being in another country, lol. |
flying with my Mogwi I took him to DC last weekend just to start getting him used to flying on a short flight first. He was great on the way up because the stewardess and the man who was sitting next to me both like dogs and I was able to have him sleep on my lap almost all way (excluding take off and landing). The way back was a different story, even though the passenger seated next me did not mind at all, the cabin stewardess was being very strict and Mogwi barked and cried I eventually picked up his carrier with him in it and put it on my lap, I opened the front flap and put my whole arm in at which point he rested his head on my arm and fell asleep :aimeeyork he slept the rest of the two hour flight whew! Then he went potty in the dog relief area just outside baggage claim . Perfect, which is a good sign as he is in training to be my service dog. |
Where we are going We will be in the London area and up in Scotland. My family are in Scotland and my husband is in London. The Scotland part will be cold for Mogwi but my sister lives just between Aberdeen and Inverness and she has a very well behaved former service Labrador plus some of the nicest places I have seen for walking dogs.:) |
