"WANNA GO ON A LONG BYE BYE"
 
Looking for suggestions on traveling with the little one. Maggie is 8 months old and somewhat of a homebody. She goes to town with us and also to visit family and friends. She has yet to travel a long distance. We are planning a trip 1000 miles away to see our grandchildren. We will be driving, so that will help some. My daughter lives in a three story home, but without a fence around it. Our granddaughters are 5 and 10 and very well behaved. My daughter doesn't have any pets, so my biggest concern is that Maggie will zip out the door with the girls. I have talked this out with my daughter, and she told me that all will have to watch out for Maggie. I know I may be overacting, but I can't see my daughter's family watching out for Maggie, when they are not use to watching out for a pet. Any suggestions on keeping Maggie safer, will be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I would suggest taking like a play pin or a one of those big octagon fence things and keeping her in there when you are doing your normal day to day tasks....and then when you arent just watching her constantly!!!

Great idea, toninm! You could also get a break-away collar with a bell on it so that she isn't able to "sneak" out. They have a bunch at Walmart for less than $5. I would sit your grand daughters down and tell them how important Maggie is to you and how you would be devastated if anything were to happen to her. The older grand daughter should be able to understand that she needs to watch for Maggie when going in and out of the door. Tell the younger one that whenever she see Maggie or hears the bell (from the collar) near the door, she has to stop and call for you before she opens the door.

Hi Toni,

Thank you for the suggestion. I am taking her baby gate, so that when we are doing something else, she can take a nap in the guest bedroom. She is so use to being in the same room with me. I will get her playpen out of the attic. I know the girls are going to have a fit over her. They came to visit me in March. We would drive over to the breeder's house to see Maggie. They fell in love with her then. It's going to be a hoot watching the girls and Maggie together.

That is a great idea. It's true, you might as well bury me if something should happen to Maggie. My daughter asked me if Maggie had a Micro-Chip. I told her Yes, but who is going to give back a Yorkie. Only a very honest person, or another Yorkie owner would give one back. To think that Maggie could be lost in Atlanta, gives me nightmares. Almost makes me think twice about going. I guess I could clip her leash to my pants belt loop. May do that too.

This probably doesn't make any sense, but you could put up a gate at the door, so that everyone would have to step over it :D but little Maggie couldn't run out the door. :animal37

I wish that would work, because it's a great idea. If only outside doors would swing out instead of in.

Any way to put one outside the door or is there a storm door? If it was narrow enough, perhaps it could fit between the inside door and the storm door????? :confused: A short hallway is handy inside a door for that reason! :D

I have a Maggie too
 
Hii stitches....my little Maggie is our darling too......She shares our home with Max.......they are so important to me .........I bought a metal play yard at PetSmart......and I use it to keep them safe when we travel and stop at......motel, relatives, beach, RV parks....etc....hope you have a great trip
