Grooming at home Does anyone have any suggestion for some good clippers for grooming? I do most of Layla's grooming at home now because I don't trust taking her to a groomer with her condition. I can take her to the vet for ear plucking, etc, but I will do the main clipping at home. Right now we just have a tiny little Wahl clipper from Walmart which does not work so well. It was fine before when I would just use it on her ears, but it's not working out for her body. Layla's coat is thick and cottony and it always gets stuck and stops working. I can't afford anything really expensive, and Layla doesn't have to look perfect (she's already perfect! :) ) but I'm just looking for something to get it done a little more quickly and with less frustration! Right now it can take me over an hour just to get half of her back cut, and she really doesn't want to sit for that long. We also need to shave down her butt area quite often because we express her pee and poop and it gets messy when her hair starts getting long! Thanks in advance for any suggestions! |
I know there are better and more expensive clippers on the market. But this is the set I have that I purchased at Amazon. I keep my two in a puppy cut now and Bogie has a super thick cotton coat. These work great for me. Amazon.com: Andis 60105 12-Piece Easy Clip... |
Thanks!! That is so much cheaper than the ones that came up on Google :D |
I recommend Oster, if you are using them for lots of hair clipping, we always used those on the horses, and they seem to be the best on the market. |
i wish we were closer, as i'd love to groom Layla for you. I love Andis clippers. I've never used the cheaper pet ones so I can't give you any recommendations on those. However I do have three professional andis clippers that are great. I purchased the Andis Ultra Edge before i was a groomer just so I could groomer Morgan at home. I also bought a 30, 10, 7f, 5f, and 4f blade to shave her down with. That was 5 years ago and I still use the clippers as my back up at work. |
I just bought a 12 piece Andis clipper at Petco for like 40 bucks,I was thinking about trying to groom him myself, but I'm not sure if I should.I don't want him to look silly! LOL |
Sally's is another place to buy clippers. I usually use. Andis brand. I also like a finishing clipper for paws, tail etc. |
Thanks for all the replies! A Sally's just opened up in my city so maybe I'll check that out. We're also going to try Petsmart to see what we can find there. |
