How old was your puppy? How old was your Yorkie when he/she got their first hair cut? |
I've been trimming the hair on her ears and under her tail since she came home at just about 16 weeks. I don't intend to ever bring her to a groomer. She's great about letting me give her a trim once a week after her bath. |

I started taking presto the groomer since he was 3 months, thankfully the gals who groom him are amazing. They started with just cleaning him up a little and now he loves them :) |
I got my Scotty at age 3 mos. so he immediately got ears 1/3 trimmed, anal area and some other areas trimmed at his first bath. After that, I would trim him all over approx. every 60 - 90 days, trimming his ears, feet, toilet areas every week or so. My other dogs came at age 4 1/2 mos. and 9 mos. so they were trimmed in the same way. I have never had a reason to keep a dog in full coat so I trim pretty regularly. |
I trimmed both of mine until they were around 7 mos. When I would take them in for check ups the vet would clip their nails for me. I would always wait until your pup has had a Rabies vaccine before taking them in for their first groomer. Most groomer's require proof of vaccinations before they'll allow you to bring the pup in. |
4 1/2 months old :) |
Around 4 or 5 months I think- but it was just a little trim. I just wanted to get her used to the groomer early, so she started going even before that just for a bath and blow dry. |
I think it was around 4 or 5 months to get him used to it. They just trimmed ears, anal area, and feet. The official cut I would say about 81/2 months. I believe that really help him, cause he loves to go to the groomer. |
great question! i thought about asking the same question!!! I'm thinking of taking coco to the groomer's in about a month when she's about 5 months old... but i will be taking her to the breeder who also does grooming. |
Thanks so much for all of the responses. Aiko is almost 6 months old and he has been to the groomer once for a bath but that is it. I bathe him once a week but I have to fight him to brush him. His hair is at a very awkward stage and I would just like to have it trimmed up a bit. Just didn't know if it was to soon or it would hurt the growth of his hair. I know when they shaved my pomeranian it took over a year for his hair to grow back on his butt. Very irritating. |

Minnie had never had her hair cut or trimmed. She is 7 months old now. I dont plan on doing anything with it other than trimming. I do all the grooming by myself as it is. |
