Joey Hi: We are new to YorkieTalk.com. Joey is my Yorkie (he will be 4 years old in September). Joey has always been a sick little boy. When I got him at 3-1/2 months, he was constantly vomiting yellow bowel. We took him to the vet, and they did blood work thinking it could be a liver shunt. The tests came back negative for liver shuts and we moved on to an internal medicine doctor. She performed an endoscopy and found Inflammatory Bowel Disease. Joey will be on steroids and Reglan for the rest of his life. This poor little boy is always sick. We tried Duck and Potato prescription dog food and now are on Salmon and Potato. He even has special Salmon and Potato treats from Alaska. I am writing this to find out if there are other Yorkie's out there with this problem. We have spent thousands of dollars on Joey between doctors, blood tests, different kinds of foods, etc. I am grateful every day that Joey has come into my life and I am able to care for him (financially). I love my little boy! |
I'm sorry that your Joey isn't well. I'm glad he has you to love him and care for him!! |
Sorry to hear about your Joey. Hopefully someone will come along with some experience. But I just wanted to take the opportunity to welcome you and Joey to YT. |
I'm so sorry to hear about your little Joey, I have a Joey too, and I know how hard it must be to see him suffer. Years ago, I had a very sickly dog with a genetic illness, and the emotional drain as well as the financial drain can be devastating. I recommend anyone with a sickly dog, to try and contact the breeder. So many breeders think they raise healthy dogs, since they don't keep in touch with their families. She probably won't do anything about it, but at least she'll know. Anyway, welcome to Yorkietalk, and I'm sure you'll find others whose dogs suffer from this; glad your Joey found a good home! |
Hi and Welcome to YT! Many menbers homecook for their dogs with intestinal problems. Have you considered seeing a Nutritionist? They work out special diets according to your dog's specific condition. Many regular dog foods contain additives that dogs may be sensitive to. |
Welcome to YT. My 4 year old Pippin has IBD. He was diagnosed last year. I cook oatmeal and tilapia for him. Once in a while he gets some cooked veggies. I have found that if he gets a little food about every 4-5 hours he doesn't seem to spit up bile. He just got off 4 months of prednisone so I worry about him having an episode. There are a lot of members on here with dogs that have IBD or pancreatitis. Search the quick links for IBD and you should find some helpful threads. |
