Rizzo is Acting Odd...
 

I went away for a few days to Paris, and left Rizzo with a dog sitter who has a yorkie herself. She followed all of my instructions to a T (so far as I can tell) and he was all kinds of happy when I picked him up. Now that he is home, he's just laying around and not doing much. I've tried to get him to play ball, and run around outside and he didn't want to do either. He just trotted to his potty spot and came back to me to go inside.
He was so happy and energetic when I picked him up from her house. He's physically just fine as far as I can tell. He ate his dinner is drinking water and the "system" is processing normal.
I hope he's just exhausted from finally having a small dog to play with all weekend, though he isn't sleeping. He's just laying there staring off, and it's just so out of character for him to be pretty much ignoring me. Only bothering to acknowledge me when he needs something.
Anyone with similar experiences when you pick your pups up from the sitter?
I hope he's alright, I've never seen Rizzo in such a down mood before :( and I've had him go to doggy sitters before, this is just the first time he's been "sat" with a small dog, and I think it's the longest he's been taken care of by another person...sigh.

Tibbe acts this way after he's had to stay away from me. I think he's just resting up and reprocessing things in his head and body, resetting. When I first pick Tibbe up from the vet, he acts like he doesn't even know me, then is a bit standoffish and quiet toward me the rest of the night! I do not know why he behaves this way but it takes him a good while to find his default settings again.

If you little Rizzo is still behaving strangely tomorrow, let the vet check him, but he will probably start to come around tonight.

Paris!!!! I am jealous and green all over!!! I'll bet you are a bit tired yourself.

Maybe he is just relieved to be home with you. Give him 24 hours.

Go to him right now and apologize for ever having left him for so long! Oh that poor baby! Hugs and kisses and make over him tenfold... his little feelings are hurt and he is mad at you! And tell him how much you missed him... :D and that you'll be a good Mommie from now on and never ever leave him again!

Just kidding, but it might help... :D

He probably misses the other dog and all the excitement. I know when I visit my dads house once or twice a week, and then we go back home to our regular house with just him and I, he gets kind of mopey.

I agree. He is mad at you!:) He'll get over it.:)

Did it when we got home, lol :animal36...he was still a little mopey this morning, but when I let hime out he was running around again. Good to know other yorkies are like this...such little drama kings/queens :cool:

Yorkies are the original drama kings and queens and take everything personally.

Well, I do feel bad leaving him at home while I go on vacation, but once I leave Europe it won't happen at all. Just getting my Euro-trip out of the way while I have the chance. Before he knows it he'll be tired of me never giving him a break, haha.
Just got back from lunch, guessing he got a pretty good power nap in, as he destroyed one of my socks that I must have left under the couch. Guess that's my punishment for leaving him behind :) Plus he is back to his energetic self...I'm hoping I picked up anything else he may be interested in chewing on..

I'm glad he's acting more like himself again.:)

Even old Carlo is like that when we board him. He plays, runs, etc, and when we pick him up, he sleeps quite a bit the first day. Glad to hear he is getting back to normal.

I've had to leave Shadow several times overnight, she stays with my husband, and I get ignored when I get home.

Sometimes I get the same treatment when I've been out most of the day. My husband works at home so he is here and we have two other dogs, so she's not alone. She just has to let me know she disapproves.

Mine aren't too bad about me leaving, but then I always deliberately take time to stop what I'm doing and spend a few minutes with them, look each one in the eye, telling each one how I missed them and how I'm so glad to be home.

People would probably think I'm crazy, but it does help to keep them from getting too down in the dumps about it. DH says they're fine when I'm gone, no problems. But because of how stress can affect them, it's worth it to the 'Aw poor baby, Mommie is so sorry' routine to get them back into their routines as quickly as possible.

My Peek a Boo is the worst. I watch him for the first few days I come back from vacation, and I'll stop what I'm doing especially just for him and just hold him or rub his tummy and talk to him, and give him kisses. I'll kiss one side of his face and he'll turn his head so I can kiss the other side.

He gets as many kisses as he wants (part of the deal after I adopted him), then he'll give me a kiss or two, and I ask him 'Are you okay? You know Mommie loves you. Did you get enough kisses? You can have more if you want. You know you're my boy, right?'

And when he's done, he'll start play biting my hands, and I say 'What! Are you biting your Mommie! Oh my goodness! Oh he's playing!' And he gets so wound up, it's so funny. Then he lays down for a nap... and I know he's allright with me. That's my boy! :D

I'm glad that Rizzo is acting like himself again. Like another poster said, he was probably mad at you!
