Puppy Love
 

My husband and I went to our favorite outdoor mall today with Gizmo. When we went into one store, were alot of the workers know us and stop to hold Giz, one woman stopped me and said. "Do you want another one?" and I laughed pointed to my husband and said "Yeah right, I do but good luck trying to convince him." She looked at me and said "No seriously, one of my co-workers neighbor's left her with their Yorkie and she's not getting along with her older dog. She going to have to take her to the pound."

And that's when my heart broke. I came over to her co-worker who showed me a picture of a Yorkie mix little girl. Apparently, she was a pet to a family who got into a messy divorce and couldn't take care of her anymore. She came with a pink play pen, pink harness, pink crate, clothes, shampoo, leash, and everything else. She's up-to-date on all her shots, is 9 months and just hasn't been spayed yet.

My heart sank, she had the cutest face. The store worker said she had the sweetest personality, however when she brought her home, her older dog was terrible and tried to attack her.

I asked her how much she wanted for the little girl, and she said I could simply have her because it was either someone take her or she would be taken to the pound and or humane society.

My husband wants absolutely nothing to do with this...I told her to give me her number and I would be getting back with her.

What do I do? Gizmo loves other dogs and wants a play buddy so bad. But I think my husband will kill me but I'm use to that.

Is this a good idea?

No telling what you might be getting into with an unknown dog. It almost sounds too good to be true - like someone wants to move out a real problem with lots of baggage and behavior issues, maybe even a serious medical condition, seizures, pancreatitis, a horrible neurological disease. Or could be the dream-come-true situation that you just sometimes fall into - the perfect dog with no problems, no health/behavior problems and she could be a wonderful addition to your family - smart and bright and loving.

Are you prepared financially and emotionally in case this dog is quite ill and needs lots of vetting, maybe very expensive surgery and intensive follow-up care? You have to be prepared for the worst in case you are faced with it. What would you do if you get her and she needs $7,000 surgery?

Just things you want to think over before your heart takes over. Good luck!!!

I know someone who got a yorkie under similar circumstances- the person just didn't have time for the dog and it came with everything. Some people really do just care about the dogs well- being and aren't trying to make a buck off the fact that they need to rehome their dog. If you have been wanting another one anyway, this sounds like the perfect situation for you. But make sure everyone is on board, because the last thing this poor dog needs is to be re-homed yet again. Good Luck with your decision :)

I've adopted two cats from the shelter, and I know the little Yorkie isn't in the pound but they said she could end up there, and both cats ended up having something wrong with them. The first cat had major dental issues and the 2nd cat had ringworm which spread to our other cat and to my sister and her boyfriend. I would be cautious.

Is there any way you can check out the dog's vet records to se if she has any problems. If you can afford another dog (and talk hubby into it), then go for it! You would be giving a good home to this little one! Good luck with your decision!
