Yet another question.. Ok, I know you all are getting tired of my questions..lol..But heres another..When I first got Foxy home I washed her and "tried" to clip her nails. When I went to cut her nails, she shreeked..so I left them alone. When she went to the vet they said no problem they would do it for me..Well the vet said omgosh when is the last time her nails have been cut? I said well I just adopted her so Im not sure? she said they are sooo long that the quick of the nail is long as well, she said she couldnt cut them very much because of that. Any suggestions on this? If I gradually cut them will the quick of the nail go back to where its supposed to? |
If you keep cutting them the quick will go down. This happened to me, Pnut will not let me cut his, it is a battle! So I have to take him in ALOT to get the quick down, and when he had dentals, or was put down for any reason, I always made sure they cut them really short. |
Yes, the quick will slowly shrink back... you can take off about 1/16 almost every 3-4 days. When you look at the nail, the quick should look slightly indented, or the nail will appear to have grown a bit past the quick. I take slivers off at a time, or use a grinder like Pedi-paws, until I see a definite circle with a black spot in it...that is the quick. I use regular flour to stop any bleeding, as it doesn't burn like styptic products do. Then I recheck in 3-4 days and redo any that the quick has shrunk back on. One of my dogs hates her nails fooled with, so I only do 2-3 toes a day on her.... she's getting better about it. |
Awesome , thanks so much! |
