Micro-chipped? I have seen some ads saying that yorkies are micro-chipped. What does it mean? |
there are microchips that are injected through a larger needle into the neck area that the vets scan to get youre information... telephone number, adress, ect. Its like a dog tag but under teh skin. It is about tha size of a grain of rice |
Great idea too! I think it costs 30 to have a microchip implanted and 15 a year for the tracking. You know, if you lose your dog and someone honest finds it, you can get it back. This way, if a dishonest person finds it, you can STILL get it back. |
I had Rosi microchipped 3 weeks ago when she was spayed ! |
The microchip is the "high-tech id tag" for animals. It's placed under the skin in the neck or just below the neck in the back (between the shoulder blades). Of the 5 yorkies and 1 biewer I have...4 of them are chipped. I will be getting the other 2 chipped as soon as they have to be asleep for something else. I will NOT microchip them without them being asleep for something else as the needle for that is somewhat large and on these little fellas, it's somewhat stressful on 'em. No need to put them out for the chip alone however. |
That sounds good. I hope all the ads saying microchipped is not with the breeder's info.. they should do that for buyers... |
Heres a good link. http://www.toybreeds.com/microchips.htm |

chipped My Edie is chipped. I call her my bionic Yorkie. All vets and refuge leagues scan stray dogs for chips when they come in now. When they scan, an ID number pops up. They they call a phone number to get the owner info. If you move, you should have your chip registration info changed. Edie got her chip when she was under anesthesia for her spay operation. It was only $30. Alison |
My 4 Yorkies have microchips . |

The chip has all the information you put on it. It's not used for Breeder information, Name Home Address Phone Numbers Vet's name It's really a good idea. My friends pup was stolen. She was'nt home, so they called me because my number was next. I was able to go pick Baby up right away, all I had to do was show my ID. |
All 10 of mine are chipped and we chipped all the rescue's we did. Our's just has an identification number on the chip and when animal control or a vet scan's the dog it will tell them what system and the number. Animal control and vets have numbers to call to find the owner. They also provide a tag so if someone found your dog they could call and report the description of the dog and location. It is especially good if someone steals your dog and it shows proof of ownership. We tagged our rescue's so if they ended up back into animal control we would be called. Cindy & The Gang :aimeeyork |
Both of our girls are micro chipped and I would recommend it for sure. Lately we have seen opportunities to have pets micro chipped for $10 to $20 dollars. One was by a vets office and another was a local spca clinic. We had our done by a vet and paid more....so you might check around first. |
Gracie already had her chip when I picked her up! The Breeder was able to do it for me at cost...around $8.00 |
