Is this normal? I have noticed in the past couple of days that Foxy has this very weird habit. When she is super exicted (going outside, going riding, me coming home, etc.) she makes a clicking sound with her teeth. Its hard to explain but its like shes biting down really hard on air, makes an odd noise, like shes snapping her teeth together. She has horrible teeth that will be cleaned later this month when she gets spayed, so could this be related? Or do you all think this is some sort of nervous behavior? Also she seems super nervous when I reach across her, for instance she was laying on the couch and I reached across her to grab the remote and I think she thought I was gonna slap her or something..She crouched down and kinda whined? Havent really dealt with a nervous dog before and she is 5..Any ideas? Thanks! |
I hate to give you an almost empty response, but I'm not sure. I would call the vet and ask what they thought. I know you said she has appt to be spayed and teeth cleaned this month. Maybe she's in pain and afraid of you touching her mouth as it would cause further discomfort. IDK? The teeth chattering has me baffled as I have never seen or heard of that, but who knows?! I know when I had a toothache, it hurt to touch my cheek where the bad tooth was....Not saying at all that's what this is, just a thought. :) |
Thanks I was betting on it being because of her teeth or maybe just a nervous habit she developed. |
I've noticed mine do that when they see a bird or squirrel... I definitely believe it's an excitement type of response... She may have been mistreated or had something dropped on her... best to move slowly to avoid startling her... My Tink is real nervous like that too, but she'll bite first and ask questions later... she has shown a ton of improvement though.... |
If you take her to the vet and she doesn't always do it, try to get it on video first.... After Furgie got spayed, she was breathing really funny, I brought her in and of course she was breathing normal at that time....she ended up being fine, but I was like "I swear she was doing this..." good luck! |
Mindy, That is such an awesome idea! Hadnt even crossed my mind..lol.. |
There are some great peeps on here that deal in dog behaviours they would likely give better advice than a vet because it sounds more pyschological than medical. It could just be that you have given her a much better life that she can't control her excitement and she's showing you how happy she is. |
