Feeling very confused... and stupid So I went to the vets yesterday for Totoro's shots and had a different vet than last time. Anywho the first time I went the vet had no idea he was a yorkie and said there was probably "something else in the log pile".. The vet I saw yesterday asked me what he was as well and I replied yorkie and he looked at me waiting for me to add something so he says "not full right?" and I said "well I was told" he said if I didn't have papers to prove it then I can't be sure and he thought he was a maltese-yorkie mix. I e-mailed the beeder I got him from a couple weeks ago asking her how I could go about registering him and she told me that his mother was never registered but her parents (totoro's grandparents) were and said that it wasn't worth the money blah blah. I was so angry.. she lied about everything, she told me his parents were both registered and that there would be no problem in me registering him but now I don't believe anything.. Maybe his "parents" weren't even his parents. I tried e-mailing her from my boyfriends email about her current for sale puppies to see what she would say and she said that the parents were both small and the mother was a DWARF yorkie.. I can't believe this, dwarf? Like come on now. She has told me all of the right things before buying him and I can't believe who she truly turned out to be.. I feel stupid but I love Totoro and I am happy that he is healthy, happy and active.. I wish I could get my money back though, although I love yorkies and yorkie mixes I paid for a purebred.. Does he look like a yorkie? I have a whole photo album of him since I got him. Thanks in advance and feel free to call me an idiot. |

Your baby is a yorkie a fluffy coated one.....ears aren't up....but at this point in time he looks like a yorkie |

I'm just partially upset about paying for a purebred but I would be more upset if he turns out to have a different type of coat that sheds excessively because of my families' allergies.. that is one of the main reasons I wanted a yorkie.. on top of them being adorable. |

Thank you.. I do love his fluffiness :) |
It is hard to tell for sure without DNA...in a few pic's I see a touch of poodle in his face..probably a black one...he is a doll baby and I am sure he will be a wonderful companion. |
PS..I think they have very reasonable DNA tests now available from vets...I would do a test and confront the breeder is he is not purebred. |

This is a huge red flag. It doesn't make sense that any breeder would go to the expense of breeding and the costs of puppies, and not have paid the few dollars to register the parent(s). At the very least, it likely means that the parent(s) were pet quality, sold on a limited registration & she bred them anyway. Always ask to see the pedigree of the parents. A quality breeder is proud to show it. As you said Totoro is a happy, healthy puppy. That's wonderful! And, he clearly adores you. Enjoy your new pup, give hims lots of love & he'll surely reciprocate for the years to come :) |

How old is he? |
he is very cute.. but he does look different then remy did at 4 months. The ears and the shape of the noise |

 I just looked at your album Katarina and I have to agree w/ Lil Sis..Marley at 4 months looked different than your puppy..but he is still a doll ! If this really bugs you then I would get a DNA test done to find out for sure. |
Totoro is very cute and fluffy! I checked out his album and there is something about him that says "havanese" to me. I think its the muzzle. Also to me it looks like the black on him goes further down his legs and belly then usual. |
I looked at his pics . . .first and foremost . .he's a cutie! Not certain he's all yorkie . . .but you can tell he's full of himself and happy! |
Thank you everyone :o I did notice before that he looks quite different from the other yorkie puppies I've seen here and his coat is still as dark as the day I got him but I just thought he was.. well different When I went to see his "parents" the mother was small about 5 lbs and the dad was larger I'd say 7-8 1/2 so I figured he would just be a larger pup. I may do the test to figure out what he is mixed with if he is.. If it's a poodle, maltese, shih tzu or any of the low shedding breeds then I have no fears.. Although if I do find out he is a mix I may e-mail a photocopy to the breeder and ask for half of what I paid, if she ignores me then... oh well  never talk to her again anyways and I will warn any and every person I know that is interested in purchasing a yorkie in my area. |
Katarina, first off he is absolutely adorable!! I am no expert by any means...but he does have the markings of a yorkie!! Some do have "floppy" ears. I dont know!! In the end, I really doubt you will care if he is 100% yorkie or not!! Even Maltese and Poodles do not shed so maybe you ae safe!! He is a cutie pie regardless!! |
It is obvious that you love this little guy whether he is a full blood yorkie or not. However, I do think if you paid for a yorkie then the breeder should make it right with you if he is not. But I must say he is a cutie pie!! I looked at your album and he is adorable!!! :) If your test shows that he is a mix I would definitely make the breeders name well known! |
I also looked at your baby's profile. Their was something about the coloring in his face that makes me think he might be a mix. Also his body hair loked curly and his tail was real long. My first thought was maybe a shih tzu mix? Then I saw some other posts about the possibilty of a poodle mix. That makes more sense to me. He certainly is a little doll baby. If he had poodle in him as well as yorkie then he is not going to shed. When I first got Suzi she was not pappered . So now she is a little bigger then the typical Yorkie, and has a salt and pepper coloring on her back, her face has now turned gold, but on the top she is very sooty color. When I got my Shih Tzu , she was full AKC. The breeder had the papers right then and there. All I had to do was mail it in. I think your puppy is adorable even if he turns out to be a mix. BUt, if you paid through the roof to get him, then I would be very angry. If you did the DNA testing and found out for sure , and he is not a pure bred, and the breeder put it down in writing that he was, then I believe you could take her to small claims court. For misrepresentation of the breed, and you might get your money back, or at least partial payment refunded to you. |

Thank you so much Kendra! Him being a mix doesn't affect how much I love him just like if my parents race or ethnicity were different I'm sure he wouldn't love me any less either LOL :D I've also been following your posts about Mac I wish you the best of luck with him and Bevo! |

I would hang on to that just in case. You never know if you will need it. And who knows, maybe he is one. But regardless, you will love him either way. :) |

Yes I will hang onto it and I've loved him since the moment I held him (so corny) but true :D |

Not corny at all!! :D:D My family thinks I am a nut because I treat Rosie just like a child. :) I can honestly say I never thought I would love a furbaby so much. So, not corny, your just a good momma! |

Hahaha! Too funny cause my mom does the same thing! She calls Bella her Grandogger! :D I just wanted to tell you that Totoro is beautiful! I'm not sure at this point it matters what I THINK about him being 100% Yorkie though. The only true answer to that would be to have him DNA'd. When you first got him he looked so much like my Bella did! However, she has underwent substantial coat and facial changes from then. LOL Not sure he is following suit?! He is a bit younger than her though, so IDK? She started her coat changing process at around 4 1/2 mos I think? She is STILL going through it! LOL It IS possible though, not all Yorkies are the same. He may just be a late bloomer. :p |
Adorable! What a face, the pictures are wonderful! Sorry you were taken advantage of as far as purchase, but you did get a cutie in the end. Hope he remains happy and healthy! |
Honestly, If you had a paper or a test in hand proving or disproving what his blood line is...Would it truely change anything? . Do you have the dog that you held in your arms and wanted to buy? Does that paper really change anything? I know my girl's papers have sat in a filing cabinet...and have not done anything for the way I feel about her. I love her for her character... and who she is as a pup. Not a piece of paper she came with. Save your money... a DNA test will do nothing. If this woman was dishonest enough to lie to you about the dogs lineage.. I doubt she is going to shell out part of the selling price back to you. Why put more money into something that will not change how you feel about your little guy? But ...that is just my opinion. |
