Hair regrowth after LP surgery Buster had his LP surgery at then end of October 2011. They shaved down his rear leg for the surgery and a patch on his back for the epidural. The patch on his back has now grown back for the most part but the LP leg barely has any hair on it. It does not seem to have grown that much at all. Is this normal? Does the leg hair take longer to grow? |
Can you take a picture? That's odd that it has barely grown since October. It should have grown in by now. Does he get any omegas in his diet or something to promote healthy skin and hair? |
Pixie had her LP surgery last June and she has a silky coat. The surgeon only shaved her leg nothing on her back. Pixie usually grows hair pretty quick but she still hasn't gotten her leg hair completely back to where it was before surgery. So maybe the hair does grow slower on the legs. |

When Kacee tore her right rear knee tendons in two running like the wind, they shaved her leg. It took a couple of years for the hair to fully grow back in and match her other legs. Her hair is silky. I thought it took forever, too!:) It had grown back in before that, but it just didn't fill in like her other legs until a good two years had passed. |
Mylee had both her front legs shaved for IVs last November, and it is taking her a long time too to grow it back in those two spots. Her hair is also silky. I think when they do a surgical shave it just takes longer on some. |
A surgical shave is definitely very short, but it needs to be to sterilize the area. have you had a thyroid panel done just to make sure its normal? thyroid problems can affect hair growth. I'm gonna ask my groomer friends to see if they have any tips. I'll let you know what they say. |
Lulu's leg hair is growing back, but its definitely taking time. She had a 2 inch or so spot shaved on both front legs (for IV) & then her right rear leg shaved up past her hip for LP surgery. While it is growing back quite well, it is still noticeable shorter than the rest of her coat which I keep fairly long. I think it just takes a while because it was shaved so short. |
I just looked at Pixie's leg that had the surgery and you can no longer see a difference from the other leg. It seems like in the past month her hair has grown more quickly. So it took about 11 months to grow back. |
