my puppy bit me i wasn't sure where to post so mods please move if its in the wrong section. coco is teething and i'm teaching her not to bite. & she doesn't bite. however, while we were playing by accident she bit my thumb instead of grabbing her toy (she was jumping to get the toy) i dont blame her cuz i dont think its her fault. because her puppy teeth are sharp it made a puncture mark and a small flap of skin is dangling. then one minute later it started to bleed (don't worry im not bleeding to death lol she's only 1.7kg). coco is up to date w her shots but doesn't have rabies yet. (she's 4 months) should i go get a tetnus shot tomorrow? (its 9.37pm here in asia) |
If you feel it is warranted, you should. Worst case scenario if you need it and don't get it could be fatality... Worst case scenario if you get it and didn't need it is being UTD on your tetanus shot! I am not a medical professional nor can I actually see your wound. I recommend just using your own judgment. If you need help deciding you could always call your doctor. I am sure they would answer your questions! Here is a quote from the lovely world of the internet, maybe it will help you decide: "The bacteria that causes tetanus comes from soil and it is everywhere. Most tetanus infections come from puncture wounds because the bacteria needs an environment that is not exposed to air. Its your choice whether or not to get a vaccine. If the wound is superficial, a shot isn't needed. If the wound is a puncture wound, any health professional would recommend a shot if you have not had one recently, or if you don't know when you last had a shot. Health authorities recommend getting a vaccine if you haven't had one in 5 to 7 years. Tetanus if an extremely painful condition, it is difficult to treat, and it is sometimes fatal. Seems like a shot is a small price to pay for avoiding potential complications." |

That's okay, I worry about little things too! I'm a bit OCD sometimes :p lol. I have a reputation as a worry-wart. |
It's the puncture wounds that are so dangerous. They have a small opening (like from a nail), and have a tendancy to heal the opening before all the nasties can be bled or pushed out by the body. It's good practice to squeeze & make puncture wounds bleed to flush out whatever might have been on the tip of the nail, needle, etc. |
