refuses to walk on a lease My 6 year old yorkie refuses to walk on a lease- he plants his feet down and I have to carry him- anyone have the same problem? This is not a new trend for him!:( |
My friend's golden retriever does the same thing. She refuses to walk on the leash. Last week she had a breakthough. My friend's grandsons came over and went for a walk and the dog followed with my friend walking her on the leash! Maybe there is someone that your dog loves and would want to follow them too! Teddy was scared to death of walking on a leash when he first started. We used chicken breast and lured him with it and he eventually trotted along. Now he is the best leash walker in our house - a pleasure to take on walks. It still takes him a minute to get that little spring in his step because he has a disability and every walk is a new experience for Teddy. I suggest you bring some yummy treats and lure your dog to walk. I use the "with me" command rather than heel for a comfortable walk along side. Good luck! |

At which point I have to go pick her up and carry her in the house. Brandi was a rescue and one of the things I did when I first got her was to first walk her around in the house with the leash on using treats to get her to walk. Now she walks with no problem on the leash. |
Pixie will only walk on a leash if no one is holding it. As soon as you pick it up she stops dead in her tracks. I don't like to walk her that way and only will if I have someone with to help with the others. I stay right next to her and we walk only on the walking path away from traffic. I wish I could figure out why she won't walk if someone is holding the leash. |
Put the leash on him and let him drag it around then when he is used to that take the leash and walk from one room to the next and on untill you are walking all through the house with it. Then take him out and walk down bthe driveway and back with it on. Then if hes okay with that take him on a mini walk untill hes okay with that then take him for a walk. Baby steps |
My dog Einstein is not living up to his name. E rus in teback yard that is fenced, and I have no problem putting his harness on. When I take him outside on the driveway, he is like a statue his sister same age loves to walk and Einstein won't move . Appreciate any ideas that willl get einstein to follow his carefree sister , the dogs are 6 months old Thank you in advance for your help |
We live in a very rural area. No close roads. I wasn't real big on making him use the leash. After all, I was right beside him all the time, right? Then I read more than one post about hawks and other birds of prey taking off with their dog. I thought well, Dexter is probably too big for a bird to carry him away. He weighs like 3 whole pounds. Then I read posts about hawks carrying off dogs twice his size. No more roaming for Dexter. |
Let him get accustomed to the leash inside. Let him play with it (not chew it) When he gets used to the smell and taste hook it to his harness and let him pull it around inside. It may take a few days but give him time. Baby steps. |
