Is your yorkie a yapper? Is your yorkie a yapper? Everytime I take Lucky outside, she barks and runs around like crazy if she even smells another dog. Since we live in a condo and there are lots of dog owners in the neighborhood, she is barking constantly. How do I get this under control? She doesn't listen (if she can even hear me with all of that yapping.) |

Kacee doesn't yap. In fact, she very seldom barks. :D Just once in awhile. Most of the time it's at me if I'm ignoring her and she's decided she wants to play. ;) |
Mason really doesnt yap either UNLESS he thinks im not playing with him enough but that's very seldom...He used to bark at EVERYTHING but hes getting to where hes starting to lose that urge to! :) :D :D :D :D |
i've had yoshi only 3 days or so, but he has never barked ever so far. or yapped. he whines a little sometimes, but other than that he is totally quiet besides when he is running (then you can hear him panting). as for barking, everywhere i've read says that yorkies are barkers but they can be easily trained not to. i dont really know if there's specifically anything special that you do about it, but thats what i've heard. |
Dollar only barks when no attention is being given to him...which is hardly ever!!!! Spoiled Brat!!! |
lexi only barks if we are outside and she sees another animal..sometimes she will bark at nothing in the house, but thats about it...never ever barks at people...only when you play with her and run after her.. |
I wouldn't mind getting a handle on this myself. Everything is fine until you want to play ball with her or pick up something she knows is hers. She sounds like those sea gulls from Nemo! MINE MINE MINE. Its so hard to enjoy when all of a sudden she becomes this demented obsessive angel. She barks the whole time you are getting ready to throw it or release it. LOUDLY! Any suggestions beside putting the ball away? |
Bo barks at squirrels and kittys. Even saying it and he barks. Duncan is working on his big dog bark. |
I don't mind the barks. He'll usually stop when I tell him to stop. But he's recently started this 'yip" thing when he wants something. Yip, yip, yip. It's driving me insane. |

Mollie is the same way. About the only time she barks when she is outside is when she wants back in, when she is chasing a squirrel or hunting a mouse. And Wyatt doesn't bark that much at all yet. |
Lacey is quiet most of the time but Chloe will get my attention by that little yap/yip thing to the point of being annoying. The only way to stop her is to ask her what she wants, outside or play. Usually she runs and gets a toy, which means, you are on YT too much, play with me, now. |
Teddy will bark if something startles him but in general he isn't yappy and never has been. He has always been just a shy, quiet little guy. |
I would not say my girls are yappers...they bark at normal dog stuff but they are not crazy about it at all!! I think we are pretty lucky about that... |
Well both of mine bark at other dogs and people. For whatever reason though as they are getting older they are getting better about not barking or quieting down when we ask them to. |
:) I would say all three of my yorkies are very vocal!! They like to use their voices to get what they want or to alert me. I wouldn't have it any other way as it also gives me the opportunity to train them "not to bark" when it is not appropriate. Hefner is the worst at barking when he wants something like for me, or one of the other people or dogs to play with him, or if he is hungry and wants something other than kibble.... And, if one gets going about a guest arriving or someone coming home, all you know what breaks loose for about 30 seconds until everyone has greeted everyone, etc. We are also working hard on sitting and being calm when meeting a new dog for the first time. A hard one to master!!! :) |
I used to have a problem with Miko barking only when we visited my mother-in-law, but not anymore! I guess he has outgrown that and he never barks unless he just wants attention and is trying to play with us. On the other hand, my aunt's yorkies are both yappers. hehe. They can't even see a squirrel run by without barking all over the place. My mom has a cockatiel and since my aunt's yorkies are there, we've been having to keep the bird in a completely separate room because my aunt's female yorkie will bark at her for hours! |
Lacey was definitly a barker. She barked everytime the phone rang. She barked like crazy when the door bell rang. She barked if your raised your voice the slightest bit. If we mentioned the name (Buster), the bloodhound down the street, she would bark and go look out the window. To see if he was outside. She was also a very jealous dog when the attention was not on her. If my mom and dad would hug or kiss, she would jump in between them barking. She was my alarm clock every morning at 7 a.m. That is the time my mom and my aunt walk. They are both health nuts and walk the neighborhood for excercise. She would bark like crazy until they were done. We kept trying to break her of the habit of barking too much, but never could. If an animal was in the yard, forget it. She would bark hysterically. And if she wanted to go to bed, she would bark at my dad until he went in the bedroom. |

rocky never barks from the first day i got him everyone in the house ignored him whenever he barked. he caught on right away. i had a yappy maltese 20 years ago that caused me to wait 20 years to get another dog. i knew i had to nip that right away.on the rare occassion he does bark i can hardly believe it. i am so lucky! :animal36 |
Rowdy barks, but I wouldn't call him yappy. He only barks when he hears a strange noise outside and then he jumps up and runs outside. He barks when the black lab next door barks at something. He barks when the doorbell rings - he learned that from the other dogs in the house. He does not bark at other dogs or other people. I was quite surprised to learn that he is much less yappy than my Jack Russell. |
Marley never barks...only for the first couple of mins if he has to go in crate when i leave ( which thats hardly ever!) But nope never barks...whimpers when he has to go out thats about it! :aimeeyork |
oh YES! mine both yap!i just tell them no barking they listen for the moment but its like they have a short memory and they do it again 2 minutes later. it will get real loud out there when my neihbors yorkies are barking at the same time its like they feed off each other.ive heard a squirt water bottle works well but just be consitant its like potty training just use the word quiet or no barking. they get the hang of it after a while. |
Kelsey will bark at everything when were outside. A girl was washing her car and she was barking...she's a nut. I noticed that when she sleeps in my bed she'll hear any noise and start barking like she's trying to protect me. But when she's in her crate she doesn't. It's weird! |
Taylah doesnt bark to just bark--now my pom, that's a different story! lol But Taylah only barks when she is entertaining herself - when Daphne doesnt play with her - she barks at her toys, sorta like she is *talking* to them, but she doesnt do it all the time, she had to be in a mood I guess! lol She also does her *puppy barks and growls* at Daphne to get her to play or at me when she wants Mama to play! :D Once in a while when I take her outside, she will see cat or hear a dog bark that is like 50 lbs and she thinks she has a dog bark that will scare them! haha She's so funny! |
Yorkshire Terrier AKA Yapshire Terrier! lol Ours only bark when they think they hear something out side. Abbie's dad will bark on command. |
Bailey isn't a yapper,, he BARKS only when he sees another dog,,, but not much... BUT,, my neighbor has 2 yorkies,,and the neighbor that lives right beside her,, calls her dogs "Yippee and Yappey"! LOL |
I am not sure, since Obie is still young (13 weeks). But the only time he makes any noise is at night when I crate him (maybe a minute-even though it feels like hours  ), and when he wants something-like a treat or fresh water (he's picky he wants me to change his water at each feeding). He is very quiet. I don't think he has his grown-up bark yet. So maybe he will be Yappy, or bark alot, but not yet! |
