Puppy Cut Hi all! I've been stalking this forum for a while just to get some info on Yorkies. I've only been married a few months, but I've been begging for a puppy for a while. My husband finally told me that I needed to decide what kind I wanted and we'd start looking after the holidays :D By that time we won't be travelling as much and we'll have the time to spend with a new puppy. Anyway, I think I've decided that I want a Yorkie. I've been reading a lot about them and looking around, but I keep hearing how difficult their coat is to take care of. I came across something the other day that talked about a "puppy cut" and I was just wondering if anyone has pictures of their grown up yorkies in a puppy cut so I can see what it looks like. I love these dogs and I'm hoping to get one soon. If you know of any good breeders in SC or NC let me know!! Thanks :) Leah |
1 Attachment(s) We keep Teddy's hair short in a puppy cut. It is very easy to manage although I still make him sit through grooming on a daily basis just so he stays used to be handled. |

I do not think that their coats are hard to deal with if you keep them groomed! |
Color Thank you! I think they are so cute! I love that some of you have the puppy cut with the top knot still longer. I personally like the darker colors. Do they all turn the blue/silver color or do some stay with the brown and black? |
Welcome to YT! Are you from SC or NC? Their coats are not as easy as other breeds but they are so pretty its worth it. And you can keep it short if you want it to be more managable! Welcome, Hannah |

Leah, first- congratulations on your marriage and also soon to become a Yorkie mom. These little dogs are just like taking care of a human baby. I got Maggie when I retired. She is my constant companion. They don't do well, left alone. I keep Maggie in a semi-puppy cut. Her body hair is 3" long. Her tummy and chest clipped short. Her legs left about 1 and 1/2" long. Her hair is very easy to take care of. She gets a bath every week. A light brushing each evening is all that I need to do, to keep her hair very nice. I use the Chrissy System products. Once about every six weeks, she goes to the groomer. Yorkies don't shed, so that right away is a BIG plus. Yorkies are active, but if you live in an apartment, then a daily walk of about 15 minutes is great. Holler anytime you have anymore questions. |
I sort of think their coat, whether long or short, is low maintenance compared to the other issues that come with having a Yorkie in your life. Don't want to discourage you but these dogs are like no other...which is why this is such an active website. Thankyou all for the warm welcome. I'm in SC (we moved here right after we got married) and we love it down here! I've been hooked on Yorkies for a while and done my fair share of research on the breed. I love everything that I've heard about them and we're itching for something like a puppy to love, adore and really dedicate the time we need to it's training, etc. I really hope that we could become puppy parents soon! |
