Frustrated! So, I thought my pup was pretty much housetrained. I don't make him sleep in the crate anymore, he sleeps in my bed and I let him roam the house. Sometimes he gets up in the night and I hear him go out the doggie door so I assumed he was going potty. Well apparently he has been peeing all over the place and I didn't know it. My husband found several places on the upstairs carpet where he has gone. We have tile downstairs, but he never goes on the tile, only the carpet! Not sure what to do now, as I have never caught him in the act so I can't try to correct the behavior. I guess first thing will be back in the crate at night, and he will only be allowed downstairs to run free. I was so hoping he was trained so I didn't have to watch him every second and he could be free to wander the house! |
Maybe use a belly band on him at night... and clean the areas he's used with an enzymatic cleaner. JMHO... I would be afraid to allow my pups to use the doggy door at night all by themselves. Too much wildlife wanders though here... |
Thanks for the belly band idea. My husband has gone through a whole bottle of Natures Miracle today! We live in the Las Vegas area and don't have any wildlife roaming our yard...we have a block wall with houses on either side and behind us so it doesn't worry me. |

Can you close off access to the upper floor? Maybe lean a gate across the stairs so he can't get up there? Then, if he chooses to pee inside it will be on the tile, right? Still not great that he is peeing inside, but at least it's easier to clean up! |
