Buffalo tails Anyone ever tried a buffalo tail for their Yorkie? I just got one at Southern Agriculture and decided maybe I should see if anyone knows anything about them before I give to her. I'm trying to get over of the eweee factor and get her a bully stick, but decided on the tail first... as if tail isn't bad enough. |
EUUUUU, surely they're not killing Buffalo's for their Tails ! That's got to be just a name they gave the Treat. BUT, on the Bully Sticks... Those things will give you some serious incentive about maintaining your Dog's Dental Hygiene ! :D |
It's a hit! 1 Attachment(s) Broke down and gave Heidi the buffalo tail to see what she thinks. It was a hit! I asked her if she wanted a treat - which, duh of course she did. Gave her the tail and she was like "well, what is this?" and then took off running to the living room with it. She decided it was great stuff. The tag says "Chewstix USA" Holistic Treats GrassFed Buffalo. Non-allergenic & BSE Free, Excellent Omega 3:Omega 6 Ration, lower in sodium, cholesterol & fat SWHouston: I'm sure they didn't kill the buffalo just to get their tails! LOL Buffalo is actually considered a healthy red meat. I have it before, not bad actually. They are definitely big & stinky. Its a lot more expensive than beef. Here is Heidi enjoying her icky treat. |

When there was a place that sold buffalo meat for roasts etc we would buy the roasts too. But the place changed hands and no longer has buffalo meat. It doesn't shrink as much as beef roasts and buffalo meat is lower in cholesterol. |
Never tried the buffalo tail but my girls LOVE cow tails. They are EXACTLY what the name says (I learned that the hard way with pig ears... Threw up at a dog show when my hubby told me and showed me what they are...lol). Anyhow, they don't kill the animal JUST for the tail, same with pigs ears and etc. They take it from the animals that are slaughtered for meat consumption. Anyhow, next time try the bully sticks... I agree, it's gross BUT they love it! |
I give Uni Merricks cow tails, they are call Texas Toothpicks, she loves them. We haven't tried buffalo yet though. The Texas toothpicks have NO smell at all. Some bully sticks can smell really bad. I think the ew factor is higher for bully sticks than for cow tails. I'd rather help Uni hold a cow tail tip much more than a dried up cow penis. LOL! |

A pig ear my mom gave her the other day is bigger than she is. Its so funny to watch her carry it around excitedly. |

I would think pig ears are ok to give. Its just gristle. My Yorkie that I had for almost 18 yrs & Heidi that is now 2 has always chewed them. They are just chewers though, they didn't swallow junks like a lot of dogs do. Actually they like to pull the skin back and chew out the fat in between. It'll last for weeks with Heidi. I've never eaten a pig ear! lol I sure do like bacon though!! Ewe, yes pig snout. :thumbdown Ick. |

I guess I kinda forget our little guys are Carnivores, and still are Wolfies after all this time. |
Hahaha!!! Is it gross? Then your yorkie will love it!!! I now go to the dog store and look for the most yucky thing I can find. Glad yours enjoyed the tail. I now buy braided bully sticks becuase they last longer. Miss Lula was going through the curly ones in a matter of 2 days or so. She is hooked. I need to have back up bully sticks, god forbid I run out. |
