Uh Oh! Not Silly Putty! My sweet little Mabel attacked the Silly Putty - tomorrow I think I'll have to shave her down - it's in her 'beard', both legs and probably areas I haven't checked yet - YIKES! Hopefully she'll still have some hair left!:eek: Wish us luck! |

Are you sure you can't use something to get the silly putty out without shaving her? One of my dogs got sticky stuff on her from a mouse sticky trap, and the surprising thing that got it out was vegetable oil. Then of course a thorough shampoo. Might be worth a try for you. |
I'll try a few things before I cut or shave it out but it's just like a really hard crusty matt - I'm thinking it might be easier on her to give her a hair cut and let the hair grow back - I love her face and the hair just frames it so nicely - sigh! I'll try the vegetable oil; I also heard ice cubes might do something. Now if I can just get Mabel to sit still.... Thanks - I'll take any advice! |

Try ice cubes over it first...becomes brittle in the cold and comes out easier...just like gum in children's hair |
As a last resort what about Vaseline? That's what I use to remove eye crusties. |

Just a quick update on Mabel - I am having luck with the cooking oil. I haven't finished the job but I have most of the silly putty out of Mabel's hair on her face - tomorrow I will be getting to her feet - she's really good at staying still but I know she is uncomfortable. I figure if I do a bit at a time she'll still love me - I hope!:) |

Silly Putty Free - at last! Well I think Mabel is finally Silly Putty free! The face went so well with cooking oil I thought I'd do the feet the same way - NOT! I filled up the baby bathtub with 1/4" of cooking oil so there would be no tracking of oil around the house - I just ended up with an unhappy pup and very oily feet. Then I decided to cut the fur instead; wish I had done it before adding oil but.... Mabel started licking the oil which made her sick a couple of times so I suggest if anyone has this happen to their pup - just cut the fur, it'll grow back soon enough. I'm really happy I didn't have to cut her facial hair and she still looks like our Mabel! Did I mention what I told my daughter? NO MORE SILLY PUTTY IN THE HOUSE!:D |
Ha! Sounds like you and little Mabel have been through the mill as they say! I'll bet you are glad it is finally over. |
Word of warning!! So now that we have the Silly Putty out of Mabel's hair, we are having the fun of her throwing up. I read how great cooking oil was, and it worked great on her face, but I want to warn anyone else that cooking oil put on a pup where it can be licked will cause vomiting and soft poops. Poor Mabel is still drinking, eating and playing but once in a while I find this awful mess. If she isn't better by Monday, I'll take her to the vets. I also read that some people de-worm their dogs by giving them cooking oil - have you ever heard of this?? |
