Spay on Wed morning...hold my cyber hand?? Hi y'all, So...9 month old LucyBelle is having her surgery on Wednesday morning. I am a nervous wreck already. I never worried like this with our kitties when they were fixed. My children haven't had any surgeries except for stitches in my 7yodd's lip last summer...that was quite traumatic. Anyway....what do you all think about the pre operation anesthesia test that they do? Should we do it or not? What if Lucy had hernia surgery before we adopted her and did fine under anesthesia? Would that make any difference? I'll let you know how it all comes out Wednesday! Thanks for holding my hand! Jeannie |
It is always scary for us when they have to go under, but they do fine. I will keep her in my prayers. I would always have the pre surgical blood work. It is usually 40-60 dollars and worth every penny. Since she has been under before and had no problems that's always good, but I still would do the blood work. |
Hey Jeannie I am sure she will do fine, presto's vet didn't recommend any bloodwork despite me asking him like a 100 times. If in doubt seriously get the bloodwork done. I hope you feel better Virtual Hugs Roo |
Because it is surgery, I wanted pre-op testing before Jilly and Tibbe's surgery, as I would for me. No problems were found but we had it just in case something was not right and surgery was contraindicated. Will be holding your hand in cyberspace and prayers. Let us know how your baby does - which will be fine. |
I just had Scooter fixed and I highly recommend that you have the testing done. I also had to pay a little extra for some pain medicine for him but he needed it the next day so I am glad that I did. I also was a mess the whole time he was away from me so I will be there with you in thought and prayer. |
I would have the pre-op testing done. I'll be thinking you Wednesday. Holding your hand, sending hugs, good thoughts and prayers! |
Sassy was spayed 11 days ago at the spay-neuter and went through a very rough time of dehydration and refusal to eat after the spay. She JUST began eating again and drinking normally, this was after a trip to the vet for IV fluids and stomach meds. I say DEFINITELY get the pre-anesthetic bloodwork. Sassy had it and it is a good indicator of any pre-existing problems before surgery. If she has had hernia surgery previously, I would STILL do the pre-testing, just because a yorkie's health can change ;) I will hold your hand...she will be okay :) |
My Sophie is still a few months away from having it done too... makes me nervous too. I'm definitely going to have the pre-op blood work done.. just to be sure. I will be praying for you and your little sweetie that you both get threw the surgery without any problems :) Add another virtual hand for you :) |
I'm cyber holding your hand and heart as tightly as I can. Please DO have the pre-op bloodwork done, for both LucyBelle's safety and your peace of mind. |

I am holding your hand.... I just had Remy's spay a couple months past. I also did the blood work as advised by my yorkietalk friends. I asked the vet.. he agreed that it is a good idea and is not that expensive. I also had the vet check her teeth and had baby teeth pulled. You will be fine.. you have a lot of hands holding you for support!!:D |
I like everyone else, do suggest blood work. Silver got spayed almost 3 wks ago and I was a nervous wreck so I know what your going through. And I will tell you what someone told me on my thread when she was getting spayed...go shopping for her! It will make you feel a lot better and keep you busy. |
Thank y'all SO much for the encouragement! I read every reply out loud to the kids! Lucy came through her surgery fine and they also pulled two baby teeth. We did get the blood work done and it was fine. We will be picking her up in a couple of hours and I'm anxious to have her back home. She was shaking and whining when we left her. I pray she bounces back with no trouble at all. I didn't go shopping for her BUT I did take the kids out for breakfast...then back home for school work. (We educate at home.) Thanks again! Jeannie |
