Peeing in crate My Maci is 17 weeks and has peed in her crate a handful of times during the night or early AM. She is pad trained for poop but she still pees in a few spots in the kitchen where we gate her during the day. She is usually crated for the night (no crying, goes right to sleep) around 11 and we get up and out to pee between 7:30. I have also been trying to get her to go potty outside with my other dog but she has yet to do her lady business there. Any advice would be welcomed from you seasoned mama's on how to correct this behavior! I feel like all I do is clean up pee and bath her :( |
Anyone have any tidbit of info that has worked for them? Its in the 50's out here today and we have spent a good portion of the day going out and she has yet to use the grass. I even took her pee pad outside with us... |
At 17 weeks, she's still a bit young to go through the full night without peeing (she's close, though). How big is her night crate? It should be big enough for them to turn around and stretch a bit, but not so big that she can retreat to a corner to pee and then go sit somewhere else. Do you use piddle pads on the kitchen floor? If so, you can transition her to the grass by putting a pad down out there. Gradually make the pad smaller until she's going on just the grass. (oops, just went back and read that you put the pad out there...) Oh, forgot to mention that you want to make sure that you are cleaning the crate really well to get rid of the smell. I love Nature's Miracle for cleaning (I buy that stuff by the gallon!) |
I will try letting her out for potty during the night when my son wakes me nightly then. As for the pee-pads, I did put it outside but she is so engrossed with wanting to run and explore she is not getting that shes to do her business outside. She see's my other dog go out and is scratching to go out too so we shall see as she ages a bit more. I do have a proper sized crate, I think you are correct and she is just too itty to hold it every night. I use a proper disenfectant odor remover and wash the blankets each time its soiled. Thank for your response and advice :) |
Ahhh, sweet thing. She's having too much fun outside to stop and go potty. BTW, welcome to YT. |
My Darwin is also potty trained but for some reason if we put him in the bigger playpen that he used to pee in when he was a puppy, he'll pee in there no matter what- even if the door is oen and the puppy pad is right outside next to it..I cleaned it so well and he still likes to pee in there. I think it may be from memory or some smells that are still there. |
She is still a baby with a small bladder. I use to get up with Shiner around 2am because he would start scratching on his kennel door. He would run outside do his buisness then come back in and go right to sleep. He now sleeps thru the night. It's like getting up with a baby. She will out grow this, dont worry. |
